(Baonghean.vn) – TAs of 2 PM on September 15th, the estimated total damage in Quy Chau district after the heavy rains and floods on the night of September 13th and the morning of September 14th, 2016, was over 77 billion VND, with one person missing.

On September 15th, Comrade Le Quang Huy, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, inspected the post-flood recovery efforts in Chau Hoi and Chau Nga communes, Quy Chau district. He was accompanied by leaders from Quy Chau district.

These are two communes in Quy Chau district that suffered heavy damage after the prolonged heavy rain on the night of September 13th and the morning of September 14th.

In Chau Hoi commune, according to preliminary reports, as of now, two unidentified body parts have been found floating in the area, one aqueduct bridge in Khun village has collapsed, five houses have been destroyed and 40 houses have been flooded, 6 hectares of fish ponds and 110 hectares of rice and other crops have been flooded, and one 35KV high-voltage power pole has fallen, causing a power outage throughout the commune.

Transportation and irrigation infrastructure in the commune has been almost completely destroyed, and some villages are still isolated due to damaged roads and flooding.

In Chau Hoi commune, Comrade Le Quang Huy personally inspected several severely damaged and flood-swept transportation infrastructure projects in Don, Khun, and Hoi 2 villages; he also visited and presented gifts to encourage the family of Ms. Lu Thi Thuy in Khun village, a poor household severely affected by the recent floods.

Following that, the Deputy Secretary also inspected the post-flood recovery efforts in Chau Nga commune, surveyed several severely damaged transportation and irrigation projects, and visited and encouraged the family of Vi Van Hai in Lien Minh village, who is currently missing.

According to a quick report from Chau Nga commune, as of 2 PM on September 15th, over 40 out of 59 hectares of crops in Chau Nga commune were damaged, and approximately 30 meters of asphalt roadbed at the Thanh Tan village bridge were washed away by the floodwaters. The drainage system and the Khe Pang water reservoir in Nga Mi village had their spillway bottoms swept away by the flood.

The irrigation canals and aqueducts in Chau Nga commune were almost completely swept away and damaged by the flood. The main roads connecting villages and hamlets suffered serious landslides, hindering transportation for the local people.

After directly inspecting the flood-affected areas in Chau Hoi and Chau Nga communes of Quy Chau district, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Le Quang Huy requested the authorities of the two communes and Quy Chau district to continue implementing solutions and proactively address and respond to the aftermath of the floods.

In particular, special attention should be paid to vulnerable areas at risk of flooding and landslides; and efforts should be made to mobilize and provide food assistance to help affected people alleviate their difficulties and stabilize their lives as soon as possible.

Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Le Quang Huy requested Quy Chau district to quickly compile the damage figures so that the province can have a plan to provide timely support to people in the flood-affected areas.

* On the same day, Comrade Tran Quang Hoai – Head of the Standing Office of the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control; Deputy Director General of the General Department of Irrigation, along with leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, also inspected, visited, and encouraged the people in the flood-affected areas of Chau Nga and Chau Hoi communes, Quy Chau district.

Comrade Tran Quang Hoai requested that the People's Committee of Quy Chau district and Nghe An province quickly compile statistics on damage and investigate food needs; at the same time, they should compile statistics on damage to rice and other crops, and clean up the fields after the flood. Immediately after the inspection, the Central Government will provide emergency assistance in the form of rice and seeds to help people continue production.

According to a preliminary report from Quy Chau district, as of 2 PM on September 15th, the entire district suffered 7 collapsed houses, 151 flooded houses, 61 displaced houses, 7 damaged or swept away permanent bridges, and 2 smaller bridges/culverts washed away. 34 traffic points were flooded or affected by landslides, causing traffic congestion… The estimated total damage in Quy Chau district after the heavy rain and floods on the night of September 13th and the morning of September 14th, 2016, is approximately over 77 billion VND.
