Regulations on the service life of motor vehicles

Article 40The Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety stipulates...service life of motor vehiclesas follows:

1. The service life of a motor vehicle is calculated from the year of manufacture until December 31st of the year in which the service life expires.

2. The service life of modified vehicles is regulated as follows:

a) If a vehicle with a service life limit is converted into a vehicle without a service life limit, the regulations regarding the service life limit of the vehicle before conversion shall apply;

b) If a vehicle without a service life limit is modified to have one, the regulations regarding the service life limit of the vehicle after modification shall apply;

c) Passenger cars with a permitted carrying capacity of 9 or more people (excluding the driver), specialized passenger cars converted into cargo vehicles (including specialized cargo vehicles); and four-wheeled motor vehicles converted into four-wheeled motor vehicles for cargo purposes are subject to the regulations on the lifespan of vehicles after conversion.

3. Cases where motor vehicles are not subject to service life limits include:

a) Motorcycles, mopeds, passenger cars with a permitted carrying capacity of up to 8 people (excluding the driver), specialized vehicles, trailers, semi-trailers;

b) Motor vehicles of the military and police serving national defense and security purposes.

4. The Government shall provide detailed regulations for this Article.
