Regulations on the term of use of motor vehicles
Mr. Le Van Hong, residing in Tan Ky district, asked: How is the age limit of motor vehicles regulated? What types of motor vehicles are not subject to the age limit?
Reply:
Article 40Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety stipulatesvehicle lifeas follows:
1. The useful life of a motor vehicle is calculated from the year of manufacture until December 31 of the year the useful life expires.
2. The service life of a modified vehicle is specified as follows:
a) If a vehicle with a term of use is converted into a vehicle without a term of use, the regulations on the term of use of the vehicle before the conversion shall apply;
b) Vehicles with no service life that are converted into vehicles with service life shall be subject to the regulations on the vehicle's service life after conversion;
c) Passenger cars with a permitted capacity of 9 or more people (excluding the driver), specialized passenger cars converted into cargo cars (including specialized cargo cars); four-wheeled passenger cars with engines converted into four-wheeled cargo cars with engines shall be subject to the regulations on the age of the vehicle after conversion.

3. Cases of motor vehicles that do not apply the age limit include:
a) Motorcycles, motorbikes, passenger cars with a permitted capacity of up to 08 people (excluding the driver), special-purpose cars, trailers, semi-trailers;
b) Military and police motor vehicles serving national defense and security purposes.
4. The Government shall detail this Article.
