Donald Trump's charitable foundation is under investigation.

On September 13, New York City Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced that the agency had opened an investigation into the Donald J. Trump Foundation to ensure that the Republican presidential candidate's charity was operating legally in New York.

The Politico website quoted Eric Schneiderman, a Democrat, as confirming: "We are investigating the Donald J. Trump Foundation."

This move comes as the 2016 US presidential election campaign enters its final stages, with less than two weeks remaining before Trump's live debate with Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton in New York.
