The Vietnam Cinema Association has just announced the information about the “Canh Dieu 2016” Awards on the morning of March 15. This year, actor Quyen Linh will be the director of the Awards Ceremony for the second time.

Accordingly, this year's Kite Awards still include the following categories: television dramas, feature films, documentaries, scientific films, animations, short films, and critical theoretical research works.

This year, the award ceremony of the “Kite Award 2016” will take place in Ho Chi Minh City on April 9th, aiming at the criteria: "Promoting cinema and television works with creative marks in artistic expression, imbued with national identity, rich in humanistic values ​​and achieving positive social effects".

The 2016 Kite Award structure includes: Golden Kite, Silver Kite and Certificates of Merit awarded to the best works in each category and individual awards.

As of March 13, the Organizing Committee has received 118 films, 05 research works, and film criticism theories registered for the award, including: Feature films (19 films), TV series (20 films, including 16 series, 4 short films), Animated films (13 films), Documentary films (39 films), Scientific films (11 films), Short films (16 films); Research works, film criticism theories have 5 works participating.

Responding to the issue of Vietnamese films not being able to compete, Director, People's Artist Dang Xuan Hai - Chairman of the Vietnam Cinema Association said: "Vietnamese films mean that the original script is from a foreign country. When brought to Vietnam for production, the script will be adjusted and improved a lot.

In addition, the budget for making scripts in foreign countries and in Vietnam is also different. If we let Vietnamese films compete for awards, it will be unfair and unequal to pure Vietnamese films. The goal of the 2016 Kite Awards is to encourage national films, so priority will be given to domestic films.

Regarding the film Saigon Bodyguard by Japanese director Ken Ochiai, which is on the list of nominees, People's Artist Dang Xuan Hai explained that the film is still under consideration for the project "Saigon Bodyguard" to compete for the individual award, not the film award because this is a film directed by a foreign director. If this film is removed from the list, it would be a disadvantage for the crew because the cameramen, actors, etc. are Vietnamese.

At the same press conference, Quyen Linh said he would be the director of “Canh Dieu 2016”. He said he wanted this year’s award ceremony to strengthen the relationship between artists. The red carpet will be luxurious and there will be more time for everyone to interact with each other. The award ceremony will be cozy, solemn and attractive”.

Attending the press conference, Ngoc Thanh Tam - Promising Actress of "Canh Dieu 2014" shared her hope that this year the "Canh Dieu" award will continue to honor products and individuals who have influenced the country's cinema and reunite with colleagues and prestigious filmmakers at the award ceremony.

The “Kite 2016” Gala Awards Night will be held at the Ho Chi Minh City Military Theater with the expected participation of more than 100 artists, award ceremonies and special performances.
