The Vietnam Film Association announced information about the "Golden Kite Awards 2016" on the morning of March 15th. This year, actor Quyen Linh will serve as the director of the awards ceremony for the second time.

Accordingly, this year's Golden Kite Awards still include the following categories: television dramas, feature films, documentaries, scientific films, animated films, short films, and theoretical and critical research works.

This year, the "Golden Kite Awards 2016" ceremony will take place in Ho Chi Minh City on April 9th, aiming to honor cinematic and television works that demonstrate creative artistic expression, reflect national identity, possess rich humanistic values, and achieve positive social impact.

The 2016 Golden Kite Awards structure includes: the Golden Kite Award, the Silver Kite Award, and Certificates of Merit awarded to the best works in each category, as well as individual awards.

As of March 13th, the Organizing Committee had received 118 films and 5 research and critical works on cinema registered for the award, including: Feature films (19 films), television series (20 films, including 16 long series and 4 short films), animated films (13 films), documentaries (39 films), scientific films (11 films), short films (16 films); and 5 research and critical works on cinema.

Responding to the issue of Vietnamese adaptations not being allowed to compete for awards, Director and People's Artist Dang Xuan Hai – President of the Vietnam Film Association – said: “A Vietnamese adaptation means the original script is from a foreign country. When brought to Vietnam for production, the script will be adjusted and improved significantly.”

Furthermore, there is a significant difference in budget between producing scripts abroad and in Vietnam. Allowing Vietnamese adaptations of foreign films to compete would be unfair and unbalanced compared to purely Vietnamese cinematic productions. The goal of the 2016 Golden Kite Awards is to encourage national films, so priority will be given to domestic cinematic productions."

Regarding the film "Saigon Bodyguard" by Japanese director Ken Ochiai, which is on the list of entries for the award, People's Artist Dang Xuan Hai explained that the film is still under consideration for the individual award, not the film award, because it was directed by a foreign director. Removing the film from the list would be unfair to the crew, as the cinematographer, actors, etc., are Vietnamese.

During the press conference, Quyền Linh announced that he will be directing the "Golden Kite Awards 2016". He stated that he wants this year's awards ceremony to strengthen relationships among artists. The red carpet will be elegant and there will be more time for everyone to socialize. The awards ceremony will be warm, dignified, and engaging.

Attending the press conference, Ngoc Thanh Tam - the "Promising Actress" winner of the 2014 Golden Kite Awards - shared her hope that this year's Golden Kite Awards will continue to honor products and individuals who have influenced Vietnamese cinema and bring together reputable colleagues and filmmakers at the awards ceremony.

The "Golden Kite 2016" Awards Gala will be held at the Army Theater in Ho Chi Minh City, with the expected participation of over 100 artists, along with award presentations and spectacular performances.
