(Baonghean.vn) - The leaders of Quynh Luu district reminded some communes that they were negligent and complacent, reporting sick pigs late and not handling them promptly; and that there was a shortage of supplies for disease prevention and control, during a conference on solutions to combat African swine fever held on the afternoon of March 20.

African swine fever occurred in Quynh Luu district from March 12th to March 18th, 2019, in two communes, Quynh My and Quynh Hung. 28 sick and dead pigs had to be culled, with a total weight of 703.5 kg. Currently, disease control efforts by all levels and sectors are being carried out urgently and decisively due to the rapid spread and unpredictable nature of the disease.

Quynh Luu district has supplied 675 liters of chemicals for spraying an area of ​​1.2 million square meters.266 tons of lime powder were distributed to local areas. In addition, the District Steering Committee for Livestock and Poultry Disease Prevention and Control intensified inspections and monitoring in communes and towns; established two working groups led by the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee to inspect disease prevention and control work at the grassroots level; and set up two checkpoints prohibiting the transportation of pigs and pig products into and out of the affected areas on National Highway 48B, at the border between Quynh My and Ngoc Son, and between Quynh My and Cau Giat town.

Currently, the district has prepared supplies and equipment to respond should the epidemic continue, including 200 liters of chemicals, 10 electric pumps, and 40 sets of personal protective equipment.

Concluding the conference, the leaders of Quynh Luu district emphasized that African swine fever is a dangerous disease with a 100% mortality rate, so when it breaks out, it will have severe consequences for the district's pig farming industry. The district leaders reminded some localities that they were complacent and negligent, reporting sick pigs late and not handling them promptly; and that there was a shortage of supplies for disease prevention and control.

The leaders of Quynh Luu district also noted that communes and towns should continue to strictly implement the official dispatches, directives, and guiding documents from higher levels; strengthen information and communication work so that livestock farmers and the community understand the level of danger of African swine fever. They should proactively develop specific scenarios for their localities; guide livestock farmers to apply biosafety measures in livestock farming, disinfect with lime powder and chemicals; and effectively implement the "5 no's" in disease prevention and control... In addition, they requested that communes and towns rearrange non-essential meetings to prioritize the prevention and control of African swine fever.
