Quynh Luong is the largest vegetable growing area in the district with an area of ​​over 130 hectares. Starting from August, people have focused on growing green onions to replace some other vegetable growing areas. Thanks to favorable weather and little rain, green onions have grown well and have high yields.

Ms. Ho Thi Huong's family (Hamlet 3, Quynh Luong) has 3 sao of land for growing vegetables, of which 2 sao are for harvesting spring onions. Ms. Huong said: "The weather is cool, there is no rain or flooding, so spring onions grow quickly, on average my family harvests nearly 2 tons of spring onions per sao, almost double the previous crop. This crop, the price of onions is also high at 9,000 VND - 10,000 VND/kg, so farmers earn 15 million VND/sao, the highest since the beginning of the year."

The weather is favorable so the green onions grow well, yielding 35 tons/ha; the current price of onions is from 9 - 10 thousand VND/kg.

Similarly, this year's onion crop, farmers in Quynh Bang commune also won big. Ho Thi Hoa's family grows 5 sao of onions, if harvested, it will reach nearly 10 tons, earning 90-100 million VND/crop. "In previous crops, the price of onions was only 3,000-5,000 VND/kg, if the onions were good, the profit was 4-6 million VND/crop. However, this crop's price is twice as high, so onion growers all have income" - said Ms. Hoa.

From August to October of the solar calendar, people in the coastal areas of Quynh Luu district mainly produce green onions. The growth period of green onions from planting to harvesting is from 35 to 45 days.

People transport onions to the gathering place for cars to transport for consumption.

This year, the price of green onions is high because onion processing facilities in some northern provinces such as Ninh Binh buy a lot and some provinces such as Hanoi, Hai Phong, Hue, Da Nang... buy early, pushing onion prices higher than previous years.

At this time, Quynh Luu farmers sell hundreds of tons of green onions to the market every day. Of which, Quynh Luong commune sells about 50-60 tons of green onions per day.

The entire Quynh Luu district has 1,200 hectares of vegetable growing area in the 2016 summer-autumn crop, of which the communes of Quynh Luong, Quynh Minh, and Quynh Bang grow green onions with a total area of ​​nearly 300 hectares. The yield of green onions in the summer-autumn crop reaches over 35 tons/ha.

Currently, people in the coastal area are continuing to harvest green onions and at the same time sowing seeds for the next crop. People produce 3-4 crops of green onions per year.
