(Baonghean.vn) - With four large-scale deer and elk farms, Mr. Nguyen Canh Thang in Quynh Tan commune, Quynh Luu district, has become quite wealthy, earning 1 billion VND annually from harvesting deer antlers.
| With approximately 7 hectares of land leased from the commune, in 2006, Mr. Nguyen Canh Thang (born in 1971, residing in Hamlet 5, Quynh Tan Commune) boldly borrowed capital from the bank and relatives to buy deer and elk breeding stock to develop his livestock farming. Currently, his farm has 80 animals, including 60 elk and 20 deer. |
| Out of 80 deer, 50 are already producing antlers. On average, each deer yields about 2-3 kg of antlers per year; each stag yields 5-7 ounces of antlers per year. Each year, his family harvests 100 kg of deer antlers. |
| In 2013, Mr. Thang boldly ventured into northern provinces to rent land and open three more farms in Hoa Binh, Quang Ninh, and Hanoi, raising a total of 120 deer and elk. Currently, all of them are producing antlers. With market prices of 900,000 VND per 100g of deer antlers and 700,000 VND per 100g of elk antlers, after deducting expenses, his family earns approximately 1 billion VND per year. |

| Deer antlers are one of the four supreme medicinal herbs (Antlers, Ginseng, Cinnamon, and Rehmannia) that have health-boosting effects, increasing strength, improving physical fitness, promoting good sleep and appetite, combating body weakness, positively impacting metabolism, and regulating blood circulation. They are used to treat illnesses, nourish the body, prevent aging, and promote longevity... Therefore, this product is highly sought after in the market and commands a high price. |
| Mr. Thang said: Deer are very easy to raise, have high resistance to disease, so they rarely get sick; their main food is grass, vegetables, and fruits. Deer antler products are not only sold to local people but also exported to provinces in the North. |
| Mr. Ho Minh Mau, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quynh Tan commune, said: The total number of deer and elk in the commune is 730. The locality is encouraging and supporting people to borrow capital to develop deer and elk farming, replacing livestock with low efficiency. |

Thang's deer farm is currently considered the largest in the district in terms of total herd size.Income from raising deer has helped Thang's family, and many other families in the commune, to become well-off. |
