Quynh Phu: Residents build 'sand walls' to withstand storms and sea waves.
Facing the strong winds of Typhoon No. 5, residents living along the coastal dike in Quynh Phu commune reinforced their houses with sandbags to mitigate the effects of the rising tide.
On August 25th, in the former Quỳnh Long commune area - now part of Quỳnh Phú commune - it was observed that most households living along the coast were using sandbags to seal off the front gates and doors of their houses, creating a barrier against the waves.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tu, a local resident, said: “My family of five, including elderly people and young children, has been evacuated to Quynh Long Kindergarten for safety. Two adults stayed behind to cooperate with the militia and police in filling sandbags to reinforce the house and prevent seawater from flooding in. Our house is only about 30 meters from the sea, so during strong storms and high tides, it often overflows the dike, posing a significant danger.”
According to a representative from the People's Committee of Quynh Phu commune, the entire commune has over 12 km of sea dykes with more than 300 households living along the route. To ensure the safety of people's lives and property, before the storm arrived, the commune's functional forces, including militia, police, military, and other organizations, organized support for people to fill sandbags, reinforce houses, and trim trees around their homes.

Currently, the authorities of Quynh Phu commune are still on duty at the site, coordinating with the people to proactively respond and minimize damage caused by typhoon No. 5.
