A guide to protecting children online has been launched.
The handbook on protecting children online is an important part of the implementation of the "Program for Protecting and Supporting Children's Healthy and Creative Interaction in the Online Environment, 2021-2025," approved by Government Decision No. 830/QD-TTg dated June 1, 2021.
Nowadays, the internet and cyberspace have become an indispensable part of life, especially for children – who use technology for daily learning and entertainment. According to a report from the General Statistics Office, by the end of 2023, Vietnam's population reached approximately 100.3 million people, of which children accounted for nearly a quarter, and two-thirds of them were able to use internet-connected devices.
The new version of the handbook focuses on identifying online risks for children, while also providing practical tools and solutions. This document supports both children and parents in protecting themselves from potential dangers and promoting safe internet use.
Contents of the handbook
The handbook is compiled into five main parts:
General guide:An introduction to the internet, its benefits and risks for children, and how to report inappropriate content.
A guide for children under 6 years old:Guidelines for parents and teachers on protecting children during their early stages of internet access.
A guide for children aged 6 to 11:This provides principles to help children develop basic numeracy skills, while also guiding parents on how to support their children.
A guide for children aged 11 to 16:Share methods to help children use the internet safely, healthily, and responsibly.
Support tools:A list of content control software and tools for parents and teachers.
Recommended usage
This handbook is an important resource, equipping parents, teachers, and caregivers with the necessary knowledge and skills to guide children in using the internet safely. Proper application will minimize the negative impacts of the online environment and help children become more confident in participating in the digital world.
