(Baonghean.vn) - As one of the most beautiful beaches in Nghe An province, Dien Thanh beach (Dien Chau district) is gradually losing visitors due to waste pollution.

| In June, despite being the peak tourist season, Dien Thanh beach (Dien Thanh commune, Dien Chau district) is quite deserted. For most of the day, the beach is empty. Locals explain that the reason is pollution. Photo: Tien Hung. |

| Dien Thanh Beach is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Nghe An province. However, the problem of litter has been a long-standing issue here for many years. Along the coastline, all kinds of garbage are scattered everywhere. A strong, foul odor permeates the air. Photo: Tien Hung. |

| Water hyacinths from the streams drift into the sea and then wash ashore, covering the entire beach. "For many years, every time my family wanted to go to the beach, we had to go to another commune. We accepted going a little further for cleanliness; just looking at it here is horrifying," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Van (Dien Thanh commune). Photo: Tien Hung. |

| Construction waste is even being dumped into the stream by residents, posing a risk of obstructing the flow and causing stagnation. "Recently, the authorities have issued many fines, but the dumping of construction waste still continues. We can't control everything," said Ms. Ho Thi Tam, Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Dien Thanh commune. Photo: Tien Hung. |

| According to Ms. Tam, the waste mainly comes from other communes. "There are streams here, especially Van Stream, that flow from the communes upstream and carry the waste down from there, accumulating here. In addition, the amount of water hyacinth in these streams is also very large. We have also petitioned the district many times, but so far there has been no solution," Ms. Tam said. | Authorities have repeatedly mobilized organizations and groups to clean up the area. Some cleanups involved thousands of people, but after only a few days, the garbage piled up again. Photo: Thai Tham. |

| Meanwhile, Dien Thanh beach currently has 130 restaurants. Recently, the waste problem has significantly affected the number of visitors. "Every month we have to pay more than 100,000 VND for garbage collection, but we don't see any progress," said Nguyen Thanh, the owner of a beachfront restaurant. Photo: Tien Hung. |

| Recently, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Nghe An province conducted monitoring and supervision of seawater quality during the tourist season at four beaches: Quynh Phuong, Dien Thanh, Cua Hoi, and Cua Lo. The results showed that the seawater quality at Cua Hoi, Cua Lo, and Quynh Phuong met standards. At Dien Thanh beach, however, the TSS (Total Suspended Solids, Turbidity, and Salinity) values continued to exceed the standard. "On-site observations also showed that the coastline was frequently littered with trash, and the seawater contained a lot of sediment and was turbid," the report from the Department of Natural Resources stated.
