Garbage 'surrounds' national highway

(Baonghean.vn) - For many months now, at some points on national and provincial highways - the section passing through Quynh Luu district (Nghe An) has been turned into a garbage collection site, causing outrage among the people.

Accordingly, the garbage is collected right on National Highway 48B through Quynh Hong Commune, Provincial Road 537B through An Hoa Commune and Provincial Road 537D through Quynh Hau Commune. According to local people, the above situation has been going on for many months now and is affecting the lives of people living nearby. Not only that, the garbage collection on the road also obstructs traffic for people passing through here.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hung - a resident of Quynh Hong commune said that every Saturday, the environmental company sends trucks to collect garbage from all over the place. Due to the large amount of garbage, the stench is very strong, moreover, the garbage is lying on the road, making it difficult for vehicles to pass. People have reported many times to the local authorities but up to now the above situation is still the same.unsolved.

Sharing the same frustration, Mr. Le Van Minh in Hamlet 4, Quynh Hau Commune said that the environmental company's choice of this area to gather and use as a waste transfer site and then transport it to Ngoc Son for destruction was unreasonable because there were a lot of vehicles passing through here every day. Due to the limited width of the road, when the waste was gathered, the road was only wide enough for one lane of vehicles to pass through. Meanwhile, this road leads to the national historical sites in Quynh Doi Commune and the beach tourist area, so it needs to be kept clean and airy.

According to research, currently the collection and collection of waste from households is undertaken by Thai Binh Nguyen Company Limited in Cau Giat Town. Mr. Ho Ngoc Thai - Director of Thai Binh Nguyen Company Limited said: Waste collected on the road is mainly from some communes that do not have large land funds, so the company temporarily collects waste on the road; the remaining communes have collection areas far from residential areas.

However, when it was mentioned that the collection of waste on the road like that would affect people's lives, especially air pollution, Mr. Thai said: The company knows that the collection of waste on the roads is unreasonable. Therefore, the company has bid for more than 1 hectare of land in Cau Giat Town, adjacent to Thai River, to build a transit and collection area for waste at a cost of more than 500 million VND. Around August, the transit area will be completed and put into operation, and the above waste collection points will be moved here to be transported directly to Ngoc Son landfill for destruction./.
