Trash 'overwhelms' the highway.
(Baonghean.vn) - For several months now, some sections of national and provincial roads passing through Quynh Luu district (Nghe An province) have been turned into garbage dumps, causing frustration among local residents.
Accordingly, waste is being dumped directly on National Highway 48B through Quynh Hong commune, Provincial Road 537B through An Hoa commune, and Provincial Road 537D through Quynh Hau commune. According to residents, this situation has been ongoing for several months and is affecting the lives of people living nearby. Furthermore, the dumping of waste on the roads is obstructing traffic for people passing through the area.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, a resident of Quynh Hong commune, said that every Saturday, the environmental company sends trucks to collect waste from various places and dump it here. Due to the large amount of waste, a strong, foul odor permeates the area. Furthermore, the waste spills onto the road, making it difficult for vehicles to pass. Residents have complained to the local authorities many times, but the situation remains unchanged.unsolved.
Sharing the same frustration, Mr. Le Van Minh from Hamlet 4, Quynh Hau Commune, argued that the environmental company's choice of this area as a waste collection and transfer point before transporting it to Ngoc Son for disposal is unreasonable, given the high volume of traffic daily. Due to the road's limited width, only one lane of traffic is available when waste is collected. Meanwhile, this road leads to national historical sites in Quynh Doi Commune and the beach tourist area, so it needs to be kept clean and unobstructed.

According to our investigation, the collection and disposal of household waste is currently handled by Thai Binh Nguyen Co., Ltd. in Cau Giat Town. Mr. Ho Ngoc Thai, Director of Thai Binh Nguyen Co., Ltd., stated that waste collected on the road mainly comes from some communes that lack ample land, so the company temporarily collects it on the road; other communes have designated collection areas far from residential areas.

However, when asked about the impact of dumping waste on the roads on people's lives, especially air pollution, Mr. Thai stated: The company is aware that dumping waste on the roads is unreasonable. Therefore, the company has bid for over 1 hectare of land in Cau Giat Town, bordering the Thai River, to build a waste transfer and collection point at a cost of over 500 million VND. The transfer point will be completed and operational around August, and will move the waste from the aforementioned collection points there for direct transport to the Ngoc Son landfill for disposal.
