Miniature vegetables are in high demand during Tet (Lunar New Year).
There are some "miniature" vegetables that cost 10 times more than the regular kind, yet are still sought after by many people to prepare dishes for the Lunar New Year.
As a discerning foodie, Ms. Thanh from District 7, Ho Chi Minh City, said she frequently visits organic food stores to find miniature fruits and vegetables. Especially this Tet holiday, she placed her orders for these items very early.
"Normally, I buy miniature carrots and cucumbers at organic food stores in District 7, but the quantity is limited. If I buy late, they're usually sold out. So, this Tet holiday, I ordered them from farms in Da Lat even though the price was higher," said Ms. Thanh.

Also fascinated by miniature vegetables and fruits, Ms. Hang from District 2 said she is looking to buy wild bitter melon, carrots, beets, and cucumbers to order for Tet (Lunar New Year). These products are currently priced from 50,000 to 300,000 VND per kilogram. As for miniature cabbage sprouts, she has to order them from Hanoi because this product is imported by overseas stores and is not yet grown in Vietnam.
Hoa, a resident of Cau Giay district, Hanoi, who specializes in importing French Brussels sprouts to Vietnam, said she has already received 100 orders for this product for Tet (Lunar New Year). She will not accept any more orders until the end of December 20th (Lunar calendar) due to limited supply. These miniature Brussels sprouts, scientifically known as Brussels sprouts, look quite similar to regular Vietnamese cabbage, but each sprout is only about the size of a lemon, with a diameter of 2-4 cm. French Brussels sprouts are packaged and sold in 400g and 2500g bags, with approximately 50-60 sprouts per kilogram.

Also reporting on the popularity of miniature vegetables during Tet (Lunar New Year), the manager of a clean food store in District 7 said that carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc., are being ordered in quantities three times higher than usual, even though the price is double that of larger products. Among these products, miniature carrots are the best-selling item recently, priced at 50,000 - 60,000 VND per kilogram. These carrots are about the size of a thumb but are sweeter and crispier than larger carrots. They only need to be washed before cooking; there's no need to peel or chop them.
