The Bernabeu team does not have much time to find a new coach, due to regulations of the Spanish Football Federation.

Real Madrid fired Julen Lopetegui on October 29, after losing 1-5 to Barca in round 10 of La Liga. According to the regulations of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), clubs have a two-week period to appoint an official coach when the La Liga season is taking place.

Paragraph 160 of the RFEF's general regulations reads: "If a head coach position becomes vacant after the start of the La Liga season, clubs must find a replacement with the required qualifications within a maximum of two weeks."

Failure to comply with the above regulations will result in disciplinary action as prescribed by the RFEF.

Antonio Conte is the leading candidate to become Real's new manager. However, negotiations have stalled due to the Italian's dispute with Chelsea over compensation. To sign a contract with Real, Conte may have to give up the $11 million that Chelsea paid him after sacking him in July.

Santiago Solari is currently Real's interim coach. He has the qualifications to become a permanent coach in case Real cannot find a new "captain". However, if they cannot sign Conte, Real still has many other options such as Arsene Wenger, Fernando Hierro, Joachim Low...

In case Real appoints someone else, Solari will only lead Real for four matches: against Melilla in the Copa del Rey, Valladolid in La Liga, Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League and Celta Vigo in La Liga.
