Real Madrid are willing to pay a loan fee for Endrick in exchange for playing time at Lyon.
Instead of receiving 1 million Euros, Real Madrid included a clause reducing the fee based on the number of starts Endrick made at Lyon, in order to secure the future of the Brazilian prodigy.
Real Madrid prioritized Endrick's development over short-term economic benefits by agreeing to a special loan agreement with Olympique Lyonnais. After a lackluster first half of the season with only 99 minutes of playing time at the Bernabeu, the 18-year-old Brazilian forward officially moved to Ligue 1 to seek regular playing opportunities until the end of the 2025/26 season.
Financial mechanisms to encourage development
According to analysis from reliable sources, the initial agreement between the two clubs included a loan fee of €1 million and a split of Endrick's salary. However, instead of charging a direct fee, Real Madrid agreed to incorporate a flexible clause: for every 5 matches Endrick starts, Lyon will receive a €200,000 reduction in the total loan fee.
This means that if Lyon allows the Brazilian striker to start in 25 matches from now until the end of his contract, the entire €1 million fee will be waived. This is a strategic move by the Spanish royal club to relieve financial pressure on their French partner, while also maximizing Lyon's motivation to use Endrick in the starting lineup instead of keeping him on the bench.
Decoding the reason for his missed debut match.
Although the transfer was finalized before Christmas, Endrick was unable to make his Lyon debut in the recent match against AS Monaco. The reason is not due to professional issues but rather the strict regulations of French football. Players are only allowed to play at least four days after completing the official registration process.
Because Endrick's transfer procedure was only activated on January 1st, he was forced to sit out the match against Monaco two days later. The young talent is expected to make his debut this weekend when Lyon face Lille OSC in the Coupe de France round of 16.
Opportunity to reach the 25-match milestone.
Lyon's sporting director, Matthieu Louis-Jean, expressed absolute confidence in Endrick's ability to meet the agreed-upon playing quota. Lyon currently have a minimum of 22 official matches remaining in Ligue 1, the Coupe de France, and the UEFA Europa League. This number could increase if the French team progresses further in the cup competitions.
Lyon's early qualification for the Europa League knockout round opens up more opportunities for Endrick to gain experience in continental competition. For Real Madrid, losing the €1 million loan fee is considered a worthwhile investment if Endrick returns to Madrid in the summer of 2026 as a mature and experienced player.
