Real equals Barca's unbeaten record.

Coach Zidane and his team only need a draw or a win in the next match to hold the record for the longest unbeaten streak in the history of Spanish football.

On the evening of January 7th, Real Madrid equaled Barcelona's record of 39 consecutive unbeaten matches by defeating Granada 5-0. The last time Zidane's team lost was in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals last season: a 0-2 defeat to Wolfsburg in April 2016. Since then, Real Madrid has had a streak of 30 wins and 9 draws.

Barca set a record of 39 consecutive unbeaten matches last season. Real Madrid was the team that ended this streak with a 2-1 victory at Camp Nou.

If Real Madrid draw or win against Sevilla in the second leg of the Copa del Rey quarter-finals next week, they will set a new record. Immediately afterwards, the two teams will meet again in round 18 of La Liga.

The unbeaten record is another achievement that adds to Zidane's young coaching career. Having taken over Real Madrid at the beginning of January 2016, Zidane himself probably didn't expect such early success. In the past year, he has led Real to three titles: the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup.

In the near future, Zidane is likely to win even more titles. Real Madrid currently have a six-point lead over Barcelona in La Liga and are considered strong contenders in both the Champions League and the Copa del Rey this season.
