Apple may be about to change the smartphone game once again. The latest leaks reveal remarkable information about the first foldable iPhone, marking a major step for the “Apple” in the foldable phone race.

Although the iPhone 17 has not yet been officially launched, Apple has quietly prepared for a design revolution next year with the first foldable iPhone in history.

According to recent leaks, the iPhone Fold - the unofficial name - is in the internal testing phase, and is expected to be launched in the fall of 2026.

New information reveals the device's detailed configuration and unique design, promising to bring Apple into the foldable phone game that is currently dominated by Samsung and some Android companies.

Initial Specs: Large Screen, Premium Design

According to information from the Digital Chat Station account on Weibo, the iPhone Fold prototype is currently being tested with a 7.58-inch internal screen.

This is a slightly larger number than a regular iPhone screen, but a bit smaller than the previous prediction of famous analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who said the device would have a screen of about 7.8 inches.

When fully opened, the iPhone Fold is roughly the same size as an iPad mini, suggesting that Apple is aiming for a “hybrid” experience between phone and tablet.

In terms of design, the device is said to use a titanium body, a premium material that Apple used on the iPhone 15 Pro line to increase durability while maintaining light weight.

The hinge of the device is described as being made of “a durable but amorphous metallic glass material”, promising smoother opening/closing and higher durability than current folding models on the market.

48MP Camera: A Big Step Forward in Photography

Another highlight of the iPhone Fold is the dual rear camera cluster with a resolution of up to 48MP. This is an important detail, in line with the camera upgrade trend that Apple is implementing on the iPhone 17 Pro line launched later this year.

While it’s unclear exactly what lenses will be included, many experts predict that the iPhone Fold will have a wide-angle camera and an ultra-wide-angle camera or a telephoto lens, depending on the orientation Apple chooses. If the company decides to ditch the ultra-wide lens in favor of a telephoto camera, the device will be closer to the depth-of-field photography needs of the Pro Max line.

Still in development

According to Digital Chat Station, the iPhone Fold is still not complete and is in internal testing at Apple.

This information is consistent with what Ming-Chi Kuo previously revealed, that Apple is still fine-tuning the specifications and design to ensure product quality before entering mass production.

The fact that the company has not officially announced it also shows that Apple is being cautious with its first foldable device, a product that not only has commercial significance, but is also the company's technological manifesto for the new decade.

Foldable phone race: Apple is behind but could redefine the game

Although behind competitors like Samsung, Huawei or Oppo in the field of foldable smartphones, Apple is expected to bring a new standard in user experience and product perfection.

If the above leaks become reality, the iPhone Fold is not just an improved copy, but could be the device that opens a new chapter for the iOS ecosystem, where users can work, entertain and create on a more flexible and versatile device than ever before.

Meanwhile, the tech community is still waiting for Apple's next move. And as usual, the company may not be the first to start a trend, but it always knows how to turn it into something that the whole world cares about.
