Figure AI recently demonstrated the impressive coordination of two Figure 03 robots, completing a bedroom clean in just 120 seconds. Using the Helix 02 control model, these robots can interact automatically without direct control signals.

Figure AI, a technology company, has just released a video showing two Figure 03 humanoid robots working together to clean a room in just two minutes. The video demonstrates the remarkable progress robots have made in handling complex tasks in human living environments, from organizing furniture to processing irregularly shaped objects like blankets and pillows.

During the demonstration, the pair of Figure 03 robots performed a series of smooth actions: opening doors, hanging coats, arranging chairs, closing laptops, and putting books away. Notably, they also worked together to adjust pillows and neatly fold blankets – a task considered extremely difficult for robots due to the constantly changing nature of the fabric.

According to Corey Lynch, AI Director at Figure AI, the two robots operate fully autonomously based on the Helix 02 control model. Notably, no direct signals are transmitted between the two robots; they coordinate their actions entirely based on visual cues, similar to how humans communicate through body movements such as nodding.

Technical improvements in Figure 03 version

Figure 03 is a significant upgrade over its predecessor, boasting many impressive specifications. The robot is 173 cm tall, 9% lighter, and has a reduced volume, allowing for more flexible movement in small home spaces.

Figure 03's hand system is equipped with ultra-sensitive tactile sensors at its fingertips. These sensors can detect extremely light pressure, as little as 3 grams (equivalent to a paperclip), allowing the robot to safely grasp delicate objects like glass without fear of slipping or breaking.

Technical challenges and market position

Cleaning a bedroom presents three main challenges for AI: mutual understanding between robots in the same space, the ability to predict actions when handling objects that don't maintain a fixed shape (like blankets), and the ability to seamlessly switch between multiple tasks in a short amount of time. Figure AI addressed these issues by training a new data model that allows the robot to adjust itself when blankets sag or slip.
