Two-ton robot sets world record
Guinness World Records recognizes the robot built by a British engineer as the largest manned six-legged robot.
The Mantis robot, created by engineer Matt Denton in Hampshire, England, has been recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world's largest manned 6-legged robot.UPIreported on September 17. This robot is 2.8 meters tall, 5 meters long and weighs nearly two tons.
Mantis is operated by a person sitting in the cockpit or by remote control. It can move on various terrains at a maximum speed of 1 km/h. Mantis is equipped with a 2.2-liter turbocharged diesel engine.
The robot was inspired by the Star Wars movies that Denton watched as a child. He spent three years researching and building Mantis, and the first successful test took place in 2012.
