A rescue helicopter crashed in the mountains near Porto, Portugal’s second-largest city, killing four people on board, Portugal’s INEM rescue agency said on December 15.
State television RTP and the daily Correio de Manha reported that two pilots, a nurse and a doctor on board the ill-fated plane were killed. A 200-strong rescue team has been deployed to search for the plane and the dead, but the crash site has not yet been found.
According to INEM, the INEM helicopter lost contact at around 6:30 p.m. the same day (local time), after transporting a 76-year-old patient with heart problems to a hospital in Porto. The plane crashed while returning to its headquarters in the Braganca district, in bad weather conditions./.
