On December 15, Portugal's INEM rescue agency reported that a rescue helicopter had crashed in a mountainous area near Porto, the country's second-largest city. Four people on board were killed.
State-run television channel RTP and the daily newspaper Correio de Manha reported that two pilots, a nurse, and a doctor on board the ill-fated plane were killed. A rescue force of 200 people has been deployed to search for the plane and the victims, but the crash site has not yet been found.
According to INEM, the INEM helicopter lost contact at approximately 6:30 PM local time on the same day, after transporting a 76-year-old patient with heart problems to a hospital in Porto. The helicopter crashed while returning to its headquarters in Braganca district in bad weather conditions.
