Although Ruud tried to narrow the gap in the third set, Fonseca's complete dominance in the fourth set, with two breaks of serve, ended the Norwegian player's hopes.
Jakub Mensik and the biggest win of his career.
Fonseca's opponent in the quarterfinals will be Jakub Mensik, who just caused another upset by defeating seeded Andrey Rublev. The match lasted 5 sets with scores of 6-3, 7-6 (6), 4-6, 2-6, 6-3 in favor of Mensik.
Notably, Mensik had an explosive start, taking a 2-0 lead. In the women's singles, young talent Mirra Andreeva set an impressive milestone by reaching the Roland Garros quarterfinals for the third consecutive year. She easily defeated Jil Teichmann with a score of 6-3, 6-2 thanks to her consistent play and excellent control of unforced errors.
Meanwhile, Elina Svitolina showed the spirit of a warrior by coming from behind to defeat Belinda Bencic. After losing the first set 4-6, Svitolina won back 6-4 and, most notably, secured a 6-0 victory in the second set to advance to the next round. Her opponent will be her compatriot Marta Kostyuk, who recently caused a major upset by eliminating Rome Open champion Iga Swiatek.

Rafael Jodar, affectionately dubbed "the new Rafa" by the Spanish media, also secured his place in the quarterfinals after a grueling marathon match against Pablo Carreno Busta. Jodar narrowly avoided elimination, losing both of the first two sets with the same score of 4-6.
However, Carreno Busta's noticeable decline in fitness from the third set onwards allowed Jodar to mount a comeback. The young player won three consecutive sets with decisive scores of 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 to close out the match after 3 hours and 42 minutes. In the quarterfinals, Rafael Jodar will face the ultimate challenge in Alexander Zverev.
