Cristiano Ronaldo played his 152nd match in the Champions League.

Playing in the second leg of the semi-final against Bayern on May 1st, Cristiano Ronaldo made his 152nd appearance in the Champions League.

That number means he has surpassed Xavi, the former Barca player with 151 appearances, to hold the record for the most appearances in Europe's most prestigious club competition for players from the defender position upwards.

The record for most appearances in the Champions League, across all positions, currently belongs to Iker Casillas. Ronaldo's former teammate has 167 appearances, playing for Real Madrid and Porto.

If he continues to maintain his current form, the 33-year-old striker could very well surpass Casillas to hold the record alone in the 2019-2020 season.

Manager Paul Lambert confirmed that striker Jese Rodriguez (Spain) has been dropped from the Stoke City squad and returned to Paris St Germain (PSG) ahead of schedule.

Jese Rodriguez, 25, joined Stoke City at the beginning of this season on a long-term loan from PSG. In his debut match, Jese impressed by scoring against Arsenal. However, he failed to make any further impact and was sent back to PSG by Stoke City before the end of his loan period due to recent lack of training.
