"The man was arrested shortly after 2am today, Friday 1 September after police stopped a black VW Beetle on Altrincham Road, Wilmslow," police said in a statement.
According to the newspaperSunThe black VW Beetle belonged to an office worker, Laura Simpson. She claimed to have spent "10 crazy hours" with Rooney in a bar before the Everton player drove them home. Laura Simpson revealed that Rooney was "angry and worried" when he was dragged out of the car by police. If the reports are true, Rooney could be in trouble with his pregnant wife Coleen.
Rooney and Everton have not commented on the matter. The 31-year-old striker could be fined $414,000 by Everton and banned from the next match by manager Ronald Koeman.
Before bringing Rooney back to Goodison Park, Koeman told the former Man Utd player that he wanted him to be a role model for young players. And the England striker pledged to live up to his coach's expectations. But with this violation, Rooney has broken that promise.
Koeman praised Rooney after the 1-1 draw with Man City, saying he had quickly become a leader in the Everton dressing room after returning from Man Utd.
