Rostec: The US is applying Russian protection solutions to Abrams tanks.
A Rostec representative stated that American manufacturers are integrating all-directional explosive reactive armor and Russian stealth technology into Abrams tanks to increase their survivability.
US tank manufacturers are integrating Russian engineering solutions for vehicle protection into upgraded versions of the Abrams tank. This information was announced on February 9th by Bekkhan Ozdoev, Director of the weapons industry at the state-owned Rostec corporation.

Speaking in an interview with TASS, Ozdoev confirmed that the US had adopted core ideas from Russia for implementation on the Abrams main battle tank. The improvements focus on enhancing defensive capabilities and mobility in modern combat environments.
Specifically, the new Abrams models are equipped with explosive reactive armor (ERA) capable of all-around protection. In addition, stealth measures are emphasized to limit detection by enemy reconnaissance equipment. Notably, American engineers are working to reduce the tank's combat weight to optimize its maneuverability on the battlefield.
The evolutionary laws of armored vehicle technology
According to a representative from Rostec, the history of tank manufacturing is a continuous evolutionary process, where new technologies constantly replace old solutions. Ozdoev cited the appearance of the Mark I tank (British) in the early 20th century and later the T-34 (Soviet) – a model that redefined the standard for light tanks in the 1930s.

In a related development at the World Defence Exhibition 2026 in Riyadh, the Sarma Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) was officially unveiled for the first time. This system has already been put into practical use in special operations areas in recent times.
The Sarma system is equipped with automatic fire control capabilities, allowing for the flexible use of both unguided and high-precision guided munitions. Currently, the weapon is undergoing military testing. Rostec forecasts that the first export contracts for the Sarma system could be signed by the end of 2026 or the first half of 2027.
