(Baonghean.vn) - A forest fire lasting from March 16th to 20th in Na Ngoi commune (Ky Son district) destroyed over 100 hectares of forest. This is arguably the largest fire ever in this border commune. The initial cause was determined to be negligence by local people in burning forest for farming, combined with strong winds and hot weather that ignited the fire in a forest already dry and dead from the severe cold spell in January 2016. After the fire was brought under control and extinguished, the more than 100 hectares of forest were left devastated.

| After a prolonged fire, the Na Ngoi forest (Kỳ Sơn district) was devastated. This is a Pu Mô forest area mainly planted with miscellaneous timber species. It takes nearly 4 hours to walk from Buoc Mu village to this area. |
| The large trees in the forest turned a dark color. |
| Trees were broken and scattered everywhere. |
| Many large tree stumps were burned to ashes. |
| Even the reed-covered forests were bare and dry. The wilderness was deserted, not a soul in sight. |
| Everything was a dull gray color. |
| Pine trees near the fire also withered and died from the intense heat. |

| A makeshift food storage shed belonging to local residents was left behind after the fire. |
| The initial cause was determined to be forest burning for slash-and-burn agriculture. However, after the forest fire, some households continued to burn fields near the burned area, creating potential risks. |
