Forcing students to lick the teacher's chair, forcing students to eat chili until their mouths swell, forcing students to drink water from a cleaning cloth... are unacceptable punishments in an educational environment.
2018: Forcing students to drink rag water in Hai Phong
Recently, the case of a teacher forcing elementary school students to drink water squeezed from blackboard erasers in Hai Phong has caused public outrage.
In early March, just because she was talking in class, Phuong Anh (class 3A5, An Dong Primary School, An Duong District, Hai Phong) was punished by teacher Nguyen Thi Minh Huong by being forced to drink water squeezed from a blackboard eraser. At first, Phuong Anh refused to drink it, but teacher Huong said if she didn't drink it, she would pour it into her mouth, so she had to drink it.

Angry with this action, Phuong Anh's family reported Ms. Huong's behavior to the school leadership. The principal asked Ms. Huong to come to the student's family to apologize.
Before that, Ms. Huong said she would punish her students by making them drink water squeezed from a blackboard eraser, and leave it to the class monitor to monitor. Phuong Anh was the first student to be punished in this way.
On April 5, Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Bao (Principal of An Dong Primary School, An Duong District) signed a decision to terminate the contract with teacher Nguyen Thi Minh Huong, a contract teacher of the school.
2017: Using a ruler to beat a student's feet purple in Hanoi
On September 9, information spread on social networks that Ms. Vinh (a teacher of class 2A, Nguyen Tri Phuong Primary School, Hanoi) used a ruler to hit the leg of a student named D. until it was purple because she was late to class.
After D.'s family took him to Xanh Pon Hospital to check his injuries, the doctors diagnosed him with soft tissue injuries in both legs.

After the incident was shared on social media, many parents whose children were in the same class as D. spoke up to report that their children were also hit by the teacher with a ruler on their arms, legs, backs, or had their ears pinched very hard. Accordingly, the parents shared that up to 11 students had been hit by Ms. Vinh with a ruler.
Ms. Vinh was later disciplined by the school's disciplinary board with a warning.
2016: The whole class was forced to scratch and slap a student in the face for swearing in Hanoi.
After being informed by the monitor of class 4A at Ninh So Primary School, Thuong Tin, Hanoi that a student named Nam was swearing, Ms. Hong Anh (homeroom teacher) had more than 40 students scratch and slap this student. As a result, his cheeks were swollen, scratched, and he was very scared.

After being notified by the parents, Ninh So Primary School asked Ms. Hong Anh to report. The teacher admitted to "a major mistake" and then went to the parents' and students' homes to apologize.
Ninh So Primary School has decided to suspend Ms. Hong Anh from teaching for one semester.
2015: Forcing students to rinse their mouths with soapy water in Vinh Phuc
The fact that teacher Le Thi My Hanh (homeroom teacher of class 6C, Nhan Dao Secondary School, Song Lo, Vinh Phuc) "forced" seven students to rinse their mouths with soapy water during class time for a while has caused public outrage.

During the weekend activity on October 3, Ms. Hanh forced seven students in the class who were considered to be particularly bad students to rinse their mouths with soap multiple times. Before that, the teacher had set the class rule: “If anyone violates the rules multiple times, they must rinse their mouths with soap.”
Nhan Dao Secondary School has warned and dismissed teacher Hanh from her position as homeroom teacher.
2014: Forcing students to eat chili in Binh Phuoc
In 2014, three teachers at Hoang Dieu Primary School (Bu Gia Phuc 1 village, Phu Nghia commune, Bu Gia Map district, Binh Phuoc) were severely criticized for punishing 19 students by feeding them chili.
Previously, on February 18 and 19, the three teachers punished dozens of students in classes 4B1, 4B2 and 5B1 by making them eat chili for not studying and talking in class. Many students were forced to eat chili, which caused them to have hot flashes, red mouths, red lips, and had to drink water continuously.

After receiving the petition from the parents, the school held a meeting and agreed to suspend the competition for the entire school year for the three teachers above. The teacher who punished the students with the most chili, Ms. Le Thi Anh Tuyet, was dismissed as the head of the 4th grade, removed from the Party's list of subjects, and suspended from the people's inspection committee.
2013: Students forced to hold blackboard erasers in their mouths in Ho Chi Minh City
Having been assigned as homeroom teacher of a second grade class for only two weeks, a teacher at the Lien Minh Cong Nong Primary School (Cu Chi district, Ho Chi Minh City) has received public backlash for making 11 students hold a blackboard eraser in their mouth.
According to her, the class had 40 students. Every time she turned to write on the board, the students below would start talking loudly. When she couldn't stop them, she threatened to wipe the blackboard eraser on the mouth of any student who was talking. But the incident continued to recur.
Too angry, she let 11 students talk privately and pass around a blackboard eraser to hold in their mouths. After the students went home and told their parents about this, the parents met with the school board and reacted very strongly. The teacher was disciplined.
2012: Dipping student's head in dirty water in Nghe An
At the end of 2012, at Nghi Hoa Primary School (Nghi Loc district, Nghe An), there was an incident where 9 students of class 5C dipped their heads in a water tank to get into class because the teacher threatened to dip their heads in the toilet and water tank in the bathroom because they were lazy to study.

Vo Van Tuan, a student in the group, said: “Because I and many other students did not memorize the old lesson the teacher assigned, the teacher said that the punishment would be to push our heads into the toilet or dip our heads into the water tank in the bathroom. Because we were afraid of being dipped into the toilet, nine of us dipped our heads into the water tank to get into class.”
After the incident happened, the children did not dare tell their parents because the teacher threatened that if they told their parents, they would be punished more severely.
2003: Students forced to lick chairs for drawing graffiti in Ha Tinh
Seeing the teacher's chair and the first two desks of the classroom were dirty, Ms. Tran Thi Phuong Lan (English teacher, grade 7I, Hoa Lien Secondary School, Nghi Xuan, Ha Tinh) forced 47 students to lick the chairs clean.
Then, Ms. Lan forced the students to vote in secret and write down the name of the “fool”. The poll was inconclusive because all the votes were blank. Ms. Lan got angry, tore up the ballots and threw them in the trash can, then proceeded with the second round of punishment as before.
In the evening, many parents met with the homeroom teacher to report the incident, and only then did the school know about the incident. Ms. Lan was disciplined by being demoted from a civil servant position, transferred from a teacher to an administrative clerk.
