It's a mistake to assume you should drink 2 liters of water per day.

Drinking 8 glasses of water, equivalent to 2 liters, per day is the default recommended for everyone. However, that's not the ideal formula for good health.

"Drinking eight glasses of water a day has been widely believed to offer amazing benefits such as improved digestion, younger-looking skin, and overall better health. However, this is a misconception, as there is no scientific evidence to support it," says Aaron E. Carroll, professor of pediatrics and Dean Mentoring research assistant at Indiana University School of Medicine.

Professor Carroll noted that many scientists previously recommended that humans need about 2 liters of water (equivalent to 8 glasses of water) per day.

However, they pointed out that the body's water supply can come from food, vegetables, and fruits, not simply from drinking plain water.

However, many people assume that hydration should only be achieved through drinking, and the "drinking 8 glasses of water" has inadvertently become a health secret for many.

Many people even mistakenly believe that illnesses occur due to insufficient water intake.

"You also don't need to worry too much about never feeling thirsty because the human body regulates itself to signal the need for hydration before it actually becomes dehydrated," Professor Carroll asserted.

According to Dr. Robert A. Huggins of the University of Connecticut, USA, each person has different daily water intake needs.

Therefore, you must listen to your thirst first and consider that the best way to know when you need to drink more water. If your urine is yellow, drink an additional 250 ml of water immediately to restore balance. This depends on factors such as gender, external environment including temperature, humidity, weather, pollution, frequency of strenuous activity, diet, and lifestyle, all of which significantly affect each individual's water intake needs.

Everyone knows that dehydration is dangerous for health, but drinking too much water isn't good either, according to a report published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine.

Agreeing with the American expert's viewpoint, Indian nutritionist Nupur Krishnan also stated that lifestyle plays a significant role in determining the amount of water one should consume.

"If you are sedentary and work in an air-conditioned environment all day, with no opportunity for water to be lost through sweat, you should drink a maximum of 2 liters of water. Drinking more will cause water to accumulate in the kidneys and lead to edema. For those who are physically active, drinking 3 liters of water per day is necessary to maintain good health," Krishman said.

Krishman advises that if you are lazy about drinking water, you should refer to the following mandatory times of day for optimal health:

- 1 glass 30 minutes before breakfast

- Drink one glass of water 30 minutes before lunch.

- Drink one glass of water one hour after dinner and before showering.

- One glass of water before bed.
