Three years ago, in August 2012, a court in California ruled against Samsung in a patent lawsuit against Apple, ordering it to pay $1 billion in damages, which was later reduced to $930 million.
However, according to Reuters, Samsung has yet to pay Apple a single cent. Instead, they have filed appeals. The most recent one was last month, when a US Federal Court rejected Samsung's appeal.
In a statement released on December 4th, a Samsung representative announced that they had reached an agreement with Apple for compensation exceeding $548 million. The entire amount will be paid in December 2015.
Apple has been suing Samsung for nearly five years, ever since they accused their rival of copying the iPhone design for its Galaxy products, along with a range of software features.
Samsung and Apple remain the two giants in the global smartphone market, with market shares of 23.8% and 13.5% in Q3 2015, respectively.
