The National Federation of Colombian Coffee Growers (NFCG) reported a sharp drop in production due to bad weather, putting pressure on the global supply of wet-processed Arabica.

Colombia's coffee production in March 2026 recorded a 29% decrease compared to the same period last year, mainly due to the negative impact of severe weather conditions. According to data from the National Federation of Colombian Coffee Growers (NFCG), the world's leading supplier of wet-processed Arabica coffee only produced 754,000 bags (60kg each) last month, significantly lower than the 1.06 million bags produced in 2025.

Production and exports have declined sharply.

Prolonged heavy rains have caused a severe drop in Colombia's coffee industry. In the 12 months ending March 2026, the country's total production fell by 17%, now standing at just over 1 million bags. Exports have also been similarly impacted, reaching only 788,000 bags in March 2026, a 37% decrease from 1.25 million bags in the same period last year.

Overall, in the first quarter of 2026, coffee exports from this South American country decreased by 29% compared to the same period in 2025. Specifically, total production in the first three months reached only 2.52 million bags, recording a decline of 33%.

Colombia's position in the international market

Colombia is renowned for its high-quality coffee, characterized by its smooth and distinctive flavor, and typically maintains a production of around 14 million bags per year. Currently, it is the world's third-largest coffee producer, behind only Brazil and Vietnam. The industry plays a vital role in the local socio-economic landscape, providing the primary source of income for approximately 540,000 families.

In 2025, the country's coffee production also recorded a 2.27% decrease, totaling 13.6 million bags. Current extreme weather events are continuing to hinder NFCG's goal of stabilizing production.
