Cassava in Nghe An province is having a good harvest and fetching good prices.
These days, taking advantage of favorable weather, farmers in Thanh Chuong district are actively harvesting cassava. This year, the cassava crop is bountiful and the prices are good, making the farmers very happy.
In Thanh Ngoc commune, Thanh Chuong district, we saw people busily harvesting cassava. Ms. Le Thi Ngu from Yen Xuan hamlet, Thanh Ngoc commune, was excitedly loading cassava onto a truck and said: "This year, the cassava crop is abundant and the price is good. My family is harvesting over 10 sao (approximately 1000 square meters) of cassava. This year's yield is high, averaging over 2 tons per sao. In previous years, we sold it for 2,100 VND/kg, but now it has increased to 2,300 VND/kg, bringing in 4.6 million VND per sao."
Ms. Ngu added: "Given the barren, frequently dry land where other crops are ineffective, cassava is well-suited to this sloping land, and it can be harvested in 8 to 10 months. Thanks to introducing new varieties and following proper care procedures, the yield is quite high, providing the family with extra money to cover living expenses."

To facilitate the harvesting process, during this time, cassava farmers in Thanh Thuy, Thanh Ngoc, Hanh Lam communes, etc., have formed labor exchange groups, each consisting of 5-10 people, who take turns helping each other harvest cassava for households within the group. Ms. Tran Thi Minh from Hanh Lam commune said: "If we spend the whole day harvesting cassava, our family only has to worry about lunch. Thanks to this form of labor exchange, the cassava harvest is quite efficient."
Thanh Chuong is a major cassava-growing district in the province, supplying the Thanh Chuong Cassava Starch Factory with 50,000-60,000 tons of cassava tubers each season. This year, the cassava crop is bountiful, with an average yield of 35-40 tons/ha. The reason for the bumper crop is the favorable weather conditions this year, and the district's cooperation with the Thanh Chuong Cassava Starch Factory in advising and guiding farmers on crop care and pest control.

In particular, the cassava starch factory has mechanisms and policies to support farmers in borrowing fertilizer and providing support for new cassava varieties such as HN1 and HN5. In recent years, many people in the district have converted some areas of less productive forestry land to cassava cultivation, bringing high economic efficiency.
The bumper cassava harvest and favorable prices this season have somewhat helped farmers in Thanh Chuong district alleviate the difficulties caused by natural disasters and diseases. This is one of the important economic development directions that helps people escape poverty, gradually achieve stable lives, and invest in raw material production for subsequent seasons.

Mr. Tran Quoc Hoan, Director of Thanh Chuong Cassava Starch Factory, added: Currently, the factory is focusing its human and material resources on processing cassava at the highest possible output, ensuring that all cassava tubers are purchased from local farmers in time to prevent congestion and spoilage.
