White Hart Lane Stadium: A quiet summer.

Of the top five European football leagues, Serie A and the Premier League will shorten their summer transfer window to August 17th, while all other leagues will maintain their usual schedule of completing transfers until the end of August.

Manager Pochettino once again criticized this: “Compared to Europe, the Premier League is putting clubs at a disadvantage. I don’t know if other teams are happy about this, but it’s really disadvantageous and doesn’t help Premier League clubs.” Despite saying this, Mauricio Pochettino admitted that Tottenham might not sign any new players this summer.

Budget tight

In fact, Tottenham Hotspur had initially planned to make signings in this summer's transfer window and they appeared to have their eye on Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha.The former Manchester United player is considered a good fit for Tottenham's style of play. He can start as a winger and would be the perfect partner for Harry Kane, currently England's most expensive player.

The Ivorian player is still under contract with Roy Hodgson's team until 2022, earning £100,000 a week. However, Zaha is reportedly said to have recently rejected a pay raise from his current club in order to join a bigger team.

However, when Zaha was valued at around £70 million, Chairman Daniel Levy shook his head. The London club was short on funds after investing £850 million in building a new stadium.

To date, Tottenham is the only team in the top 6 of the Premier League that has not welcomed any new signings. Tottenham had two good performances in the International Champions Cup friendly tournament, winning 4-1 against AS Roma and only losing to Barcelona in the penalty shootout (2-2 draw).

Coach Pochettino and his team will play their final match in the US against AC Milan, followed by a final friendly against Girona in Spain on August 4th. They will then return to England and travel to Newcastle for their opening Premier League match on August 11th.

Force shortage

This past summer, Tottenham was one of the teams most affected by the 2018 World Cup, with 12 players, including 9 who reached the semi-finals. The highest number was...Manchester City (16 players), Real Madrid (15 players), Barcelona (14 players), Chelsea (14 players), Paris Saint-Germain (12 players each).

Five players currently playing for Tottenham have been called up to the England squad, the highest number a club has ever provided to the national team. These are all key players for the Three Lions: Harry Kane, Kieran Trippier, Danny Rose, Eric Dier, and Dele Alli.

Additionally, Hugo Lloris will represent France, while Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld, and Mousa Dembele have all been called up to Belgium. Davinson Sanchez, Christian Eriksen, and Son Heung-min will represent Colombia, Denmark, and South Korea, respectively.

With nine key players unavailable for the opening Premier League match against Newcastle on August 11th, and no new signings made, White Hart Lane fans are filled with anxiety for their team.

Coach Pochettino himself admitted: “Last season, at this point, I could have sat here and talked about a few names, but this season I honestly don’t know. I don’t know if we will sign anyone or not. Right now, I only know that the club’s management is making some efforts.”
