| Simultaneously with soil preparation, the seeds are germinated. The seeds are evenly spread into trays already filled with soil, and the trays are stacked on top of each other to allow the seeds to sprout. |

| After two days, the seedling trays are moved to the field and covered with plastic sheeting, like other seedlings, so that the seedlings can grow. |

| The seedling trays are covered with plastic to protect them from rats, insects, and cold weather. The seedlings are sprayed with pesticides and left in the plastic for 7 days. |

| When the seedlings develop, they are removed from the plastic bags for photosynthesis and left for another 3 days before being transplanted. Sowing seedlings in trays has many advantages. First, it saves space; for example, to transplant one sao (approximately 1000 square meters) of rice using conventional methods requires 12 square meters of paddy field, while sowing seedlings in trays only requires 3.5 square meters. The second advantage is water conservation. |

| But the biggest benefit for farmers is not having to worry about preparing seedlings or transplanting. They just need to register with the cooperative, and the cooperative will handle all the seedling preparation and machine transplanting. |

| Initially, Thanh Lien Agricultural Cooperative implemented machine transplanting on 50 hectares. Although the profit was not substantial, it opened up a new production direction in the fields with the participation of mechanization in all stages from land preparation, machine transplanting, harvesting, and transportation. This reduced labor costs and resulted in more efficient land consolidation. Next year, the cooperative plans to expand to 100 hectares in the area. In the spring of 2017, nearly 500 households in Thanh Lien, Thanh Hung, Thanh Van, Thanh Hoa, and Thanh Tien participated in the machine transplanting service. |
