(Baonghean.vn) - The production of paving bricks in Quynh Van commune, Quynh Luu district (Nghe An province) has developed strongly, creating jobs and income for many people. However, for nearly 10 years, this activity has encroached on the traffic safety corridor on National Highway 1A, but the issue has not been resolved completely.

Many households producing road panels are encroaching on the traffic safety corridor and sidewalks along National Highway 1A.

In this area, whenever a car pulls up to buy bricks, dozens of porters scramble to load them onto the vehicle, encroaching on the road and obstructing the view of passing vehicles. In addition, thousands of paving slabs (shells) are spread out to dry on the roadside every day, significantly affecting traffic on National Highway 1A.

Besides encroaching on traffic lanes, shellfish processing activities also cause noise and dust pollution for surrounding households. Mr. Le Van Thanh, Head of the Quynh Van Commune Police, Quynh Luu District, stated: “The commune police force regularly coordinates with police officers from the villages to remind the businesses. However, many households deliberately leave bricks encroaching on the traffic lanes and roads, making it very difficult for the police to clear them.”

Quynh Van commune currently has 174 households involved in the production of shell-shaped bricks, employing nearly 1,700 workers and using 215 molding and cement mixing machines. These are mainly concentrated in 5 villages bordering National Highway 1A. Most of the shell-shaped brick yards are large and located near the road. Currently, approximately 26 households in the commune are engaged in shell-shaped brick production along National Highway 1A.

Due to the aforementioned shortcomings in shellfish production, many residents have submitted petitions and complaints. The People's Committee of the commune has inspected the production facilities and issued violation notices, but without success. The situation continues, and there have been numerous traffic accidents, mainly caused by the chaos from the shellfish production facilities.

The economic benefits that shellfish production brings to Quynh Van commune are significant. However, the interests of local households cannot be prioritized at the expense of the environment and overall traffic safety. Therefore, more decisive, thorough, and effective measures are needed to minimize environmental pollution and restore traffic safety corridors as stipulated.
