Producing counterfeit Fucoidan supplements to… support cancer patients.
According to the investigation documents, the Fucoidan nutritional supplement products marketed by the fraudsters were advertised as helping to prevent the growth of cancer cells, targeting people with conditions such as high cholesterol, diabetes, and cancer... but in reality, this was not the case.
The Department of Environmental Crime Prevention and Control (Ministry of Public Security), in coordination with the Bac Ninh Provincial Police and other functional units, has successfully dismantled a criminal ring involved in "Producing and trading counterfeit food products" and "Violating accounting regulations causing serious consequences" at BMP Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company, located in Tan Son village, Tan Dinh commune, Bac Ninh province. Simultaneously, they have issued decisions to initiate criminal proceedings and indict 10 defendants in this case.
According to the police investigation, BMP Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company is headed by Dao Xuan Kien, born in 1984, residing in Dong area, Duc Noi village, Dong Anh commune, Hanoi City, as General Director. Previously, from 2022 to July 2025, Nguyen Thi Hai Yen, born in 1980, residing at 570 Le Loi Street, Bac Giang ward, Bac Ninh province, served as Chairman of the Board of Directors.
In 2023, BMP Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company signed a contract to manufacture the product "Fucoidan Nutritional Supplement" with BA Vietnam Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company (located in Him Lam Urban Area, Ha Dong Ward, Hanoi City; managed by Dang Danh Ngoc, born in 1986, residing at Hamlet 4, Doc Tin, Huong Son Commune, Hanoi City). This is a dietary supplement whose quality is self-declared and guaranteed by BA Vietnam Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company.
According to the investigation documents, the Fucoidan nutritional supplement product marketed by this company was advertised as helping to prevent the growth of cancer cells, targeting people with conditions such as high cholesterol, diabetes, and cancer.
However, inspection results determined that the product did not meet the advertised content, composition, and origin. While the packaging stated that the ingredients were imported from Japan, many batches actually used cheaper ingredients sourced from China, costing only about one-tenth of the advertised price.
Investigators determined that from 2022 to the present, the suspects have distributed approximately 200,000 boxes of counterfeit nutritional supplements to the market. During the same period, Yen and Ngoc instructed employees of the two companies to declare sales revenue totaling tens of billions of VND off the books, without issuing invoices.
