In this revolutionary base area, 76 years ago, on September 27, 1940, our army and people carried out the battle at Mo Nhai post, opening the first armed uprising of the Vietnamese revolution led by the Party.

After France surrendered to Germany in the motherland on June 22, 1940, Japanese fascists immediately sought to jump in and occupy the French colony of Indochina. Japanese fascists forced the colonial government of Indochina to cede many rights to them. To pressure this demand, on September 22, 1940, Japanese fascists sent troops across the Vietnam-China border to attack Lang Son, and at the same time sent 6,000 troops by sea to land in Do Son (Hai Phong).

At 8:00 p.m. on September 27, 1940, under the leadership of the Party, more than 600 insurgents, including all ethnic groups Tay, Dao, Nung, Kinh attacked Mo Nhai post (Bac Son district capital). After occupying the district capital, the uprising command announced the abolition of the puppet government set up by the imperialists, and ordered the burning of enemy books.

On September 28 and 29, 1940, the insurgents continued to attack the remnants of the French army at Canh Tiem and Sap Di Passes. Faced with that situation, France and Japan reached an agreement to focus on suppressing the uprising. The French colonialists sent troops to retake the forts and violently suppress the people. Immediately after receiving news of the outbreak of the uprising, the Northern Regional Party Committee sent comrade Tran Dang Ninh to directly lead the movement and direct the uprising towards the goal of building forces for long-term fighting.

In mid-October 1940, the Bac Son base command was established and on October 13, 1940, a meeting in Tan Huong forest decided to establish the first Bac Son guerrilla unit. On October 28, 1940, the revolutionary masses were holding a rally in Vu Lang, preparing to retake Mo Nhai station when they were attacked by the French army.

The Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army - the predecessor of the Vietnam People's Army, was established on December 22, 1944.

The Bac Son uprising lasted less than a month, but it brought valuable experience to our Party's leadership of the Vietnamese revolution. The 7th Central Party Conference decided to maintain the Bac Son armed forces as military capital for the future uprising, as well as build the Bac Son - Vu Nhai base center as a support for armed struggle.

In December 1940, the Party Central Committee sent comrade Luong Van Chi, member of the Northern Regional Committee, to reinforce the base. The leadership of the Guerrilla Team and the Guerrilla Base were established. Comrade Phung Chi Kien was the Commander, in charge of the base; comrade Chu Van Tan was the Deputy Commander; comrade Luong Van Chi was the Political Commissar, under the general direction of comrade Hoang Van Thu.

To consolidate and develop the Bac Son Guerrilla Team, in January 1941, a short-term political and military training course was organized to improve political and military qualifications and organizational and disciplinary awareness. The purpose was to train cadres for the base area and provide cadres for other bases. On January 14, 1941, the Bac Son Guerrilla Team was officially established in the Khui Noi forest, Vu Le commune, Bac Son district (Lang Son).

Comrade Hoang Van Thu, on behalf of the Party Central Committee, recognized and awarded the mission and the red flag with a yellow star embroidered by the Hanoi Anti-Imperialist Women's Association. The team had 32 members, divided into 3 squads, commanded by comrades Luong Van Chi and Chu Van Tan. The weapons included 5 rifles, flintlock guns and daggers. The team's spirit of national salvation and sense of discipline were expressed in the honorable oaths:

"Not anti-party
Absolutely loyal to the Party
Determined to fight and avenge the fallen comrades
No enemy goods
Do not harm people".

During the 8th Central Party Conference, the Bac Son Guerrilla Team was assigned to work with the Pac Bo Guerrilla Force to protect the Conference and successfully completed its mission. Here, Uncle Ho took the opportunity to open a "Revolutionary Training" class for the members of the Bac Son Guerrilla Team. Later, many of them became outstanding Party cadres.

The Bac Son uprising is a manifestation of the creativity and strategic talent in directing armed uprising and revolutionary war of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, affirming its great historical significance, contributing to the building of the people's government and the Party's revolutionary armed forces.
