The spirit of the August Revolution shines brightly forever.

Dr. Sanomish Dashtsevel (Mongolia) emphasized in his paper at the international conference "Vietnam in the 20th Century" held in Hanoi (September 2000) that: "The August Revolution created conditions for the Vietnamese people to take control of their country, achieving great successes in the cause of defending the Fatherland and building the country. The August Revolution also has important significance for the national liberation and democratic movements in Asian countries and around the world.""

The August Revolution of 1945 was the first victory of Marxism-Leninism in a semi-feudal colonial country. The revolution shattered the shackles of French colonialism and Japanese fascism, overthrew the corrupt feudal monarchy in our country, and established the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam), the first workers' and peasants' state in Southeast Asia. The August Revolution also marked the beginning of a new era, drawing a line between the colonial age and the era of decolonization.

Regarding the significance of the August Revolution of 1945, President Ho Chi Minh stated: “The August Revolution of 1945 was successful. It was the first victory of Marxism-Leninism in a semi-feudal colonial country. The revolution shattered the shackles of French colonialism and Japanese fascism, overthrew the rotten feudal monarchy in our country, and established the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, the first workers' and peasants' state in Southeast Asia.”

He remarked: "That victory ushered the Vietnamese nation into a new era, the era of independence, freedom, and socialism." Therefore, he affirmed: "It was an extremely momentous change in the history of our country."

Speaking about the purpose of the August Revolution of 1945, President Ho Chi Minh clearly stated: “What was the purpose of the August Revolution? It was to regain peace, unity, independence, and democracy for our Fatherland and our people. The August Revolution succeeded, and on September 2nd, our country declared independence. The Democratic Republic of Vietnam was established. Free general elections were held, and the people nationwide elected the National Assembly. The National Assembly adopted the Constitution and elected the Central Government. Local governments from the commune to the province were all elected by the people. Thus, we began to implement unity, independence, and democracy.”

President Ho Chi Minh also stated: "The August Revolution had a direct and profound impact on the two friendly nations of Cambodia and Laos. Following the success of the August Revolution, the people of Cambodia and Laos rose up together against imperialism and demanded independence."

In his book "The World on Vietnam," Thomas Hodgkin assessed the August Revolution of 1945 in Vietnam as "the most important event in world history since the Russian October Revolution." The author wrote: "It was a revolution led by the Communist Party, a party that had only been in existence for 15 years. It was the first revolution to successfully overthrow the colonial regime… Thus, the August Revolution marked the beginning of a new era, drawing a line between the colonial age and the age of decolonization."

The indomitable spirit, immense value, and precious lessons of the great August Revolution have inspired and strengthened the entire Party, people, and army, enabling them to steadfastly advance on a new path, continuing to write glorious chapters in the cause of national liberation, building and defending the Fatherland. The victories of the resistance war against France (1945-1954), the resistance war against the US (1954-1975), the battles to defend the Fatherland on the Southwestern border, and the battles to defend the Fatherland on the Northern border, under the leadership of the Party, have protected and developed the achievements of the August Revolution of 1945. As President Ho Chi Minh affirmed: "The purpose of the resistance war is to preserve and develop the victories of the August Revolution, that is, peace, unity, independence, and democracy."

The 13th National Congress (2021) of the Party set the goal of making Vietnam a developed, high-income country on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (1945-2045).

Under the leadership of the Party, our country has achieved great victories of historical and comprehensive significance in all aspects: politics, economics, culture, society, security, national defense, foreign relations, Party building, and the construction of a socialist rule of law state... In 2020, Vietnam ranked among the top 40 largest economies in the world. In 2021, Vietnam was among the top 20 economies with the largest trade volume in the world. According to the General Statistics Office of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the GDP per capita in 2022 was equivalent to US$4,110.

To date, Vietnam has established diplomatic relations with 192 countries worldwide (including 190/193 UN member states) across all continents, including 3 countries with special relations, 17 strategic partners (4 comprehensive strategic partners, 13 comprehensive partners); and has economic and trade relations with over 230 countries and territories. Vietnam is also an active member of over 70 regional and international organizations, playing an important role in ASEAN and many important UN agencies.

The aforementioned achievements are the product of creativity, the result of a continuous and persistent effort by the entire nation under the leadership of the Party to build a prosperous, strong, democratic, just, and civilized Vietnam.
