Landslide kills 5-year-old girl.

At approximately 5:00 AM on August 13th, a landslide occurred in Na Vai village, Lang Ngam commune, Ngan Son district (Bac Kan province), burying the house of Doanh Thiem Phuong's family and causing the death of Ngo Thanh Tam, a girl born in 2012.

Mr. Phuong suffered minor injuries, while his wife, Ms. Do Thi Nga, was buried under rocks and soil. However, she was rescued in time and taken to the hospital for emergency treatment, and her health is gradually recovering.

According to Phương's neighbors, the landslide occurred around 5 a.m., when people were asleep and heard a loud rumbling sound. Afterward, they heard Phương calling for help. They immediately rushed over, only to find the house completely collapsed, buried under earth and rocks.

The villagers immediately dug through the earth and lifted trees to rescue the people; Ms. Nga was rescued in time, but her daughter died after being crushed by a large mass of earth and rocks.

Ms. Chu Thi Huyen, Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Ngan Son District, confirmed the incident and said: "After receiving the information, the authorities immediately arrived to rescue people, evacuate belongings and residents from the dangerous area. At the same time, leaders of the Provincial and District People's Committees, and various levels of agencies also visited and encouraged the affected families."

Ms. Chu Thi Huyen further informed that due to heavy rain in Ngan Son district on the night of August 12th and the early morning of August 13th, the water levels in rivers and streams rose, causing flooding and landslides in some areas. Currently, the water has receded and the district is compiling a report on the damage.

At the scene of the landslide, Doanh Thiem Phuong's house, located on the hillside, was almost completely buried under the debris. Phuong said that the house was built a long time ago, and his family had leveled a corner of the hill to build it.

On the morning the landslide occurred, the whole family was still asleep in bed when suddenly earth and rocks came crashing down. Luckily, Mr. Phuong was thrown to the side by the falling earth and rocks, while his wife and daughter were buried under the earth, rocks, and walls; his wife was rescued in time, but his daughter did not survive.

Earlier, on August 4th, also in Na Vai village, Lang Ngam commune, Ngan Son district (Bac Kan province), a landslide completely buried the stilt house of Mr. Long Van Giang's family. Fortunately, no one was home at the time of the landslide, so there were no casualties.
