Near Tet, shrimp price increased to 300,000 VND/kg
(Baonghean.vn) - In the days leading up to Lunar New Year, the price of brackish water shrimp in Nghe An has increased to 300,000 VND/kg. Some pond owners have sold 6 tons of commercial shrimp, earning billions of dong.
The days are nearLunar New Year, many brackish shrimp farming households in Nghe An province are harvesting and supplying fresh food to the market. Due to high demand, the price of commercial shrimp has increased significantly compared to the same time of year.
Mr. Nguyen Cuong's family in hamlet 2, Dien Trung commune (Dien Chau) has 6 hectares of ponds for raising salted shrimp and pigs. Due to investmenthigh technology shrimp farming, so it gives high yield every year, especially shrimp farming crop 3.
Mr. Cuong said that every year, the demand for commercial shrimp is usually high during the Lunar New Year, so he invested in raising shrimp for the third crop on an area of 3 hectares of ponds. During this Tet holiday, he expected to sell about 10 tons of commercial shrimp, but by the 29th of Tet, he had already sold 5 tons. The selling price during this pre-Tet period is quite high compared to the middle months of the year, the type of shrimp 20 pieces/kg is priced at 300,000 VND/kg, the type of shrimp 50 pieces/kg is sold at 200,000 VND/kg.
"During Tet, traders harvest as many tons as they order, but cannot sell all of them, so the remaining shrimp in the ponds will wait to be sold in January, when the price of shrimp will be even higher. Because experience from many years ago shows that after Tet, shrimp prices increase due to scarce supply while the market consumes strongly," said Mr. Cuong.
In some communes of Quynh Bang and Quynh Luong (Quynh Luu); Quynh Xuan ward (Hoang Mai town), some shrimp farming facilities applying technology also harvest to sell during Tet.
Mr. Bui Xuan Truc - Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quynh Luu district said: Quynh Luu has more than 500 hectares of shrimp ponds, but most of them are for the main crop. Because the shrimp farming areas have not applied technology, it is difficult to succeed in the third crop, so the shrimp output at the end of the year is low, while the demand for fresh shrimp is high. Therefore, households that invest in applying technology will have high income, because the selling price of shrimp during this Tet holiday is much higher than usual.
Currently, in the province, there are 70 establishments applying high-tech shrimp farming models, suitable for multi-stage shrimp farming with an area of 121 hectares, increasing productivity and product quality.
Mr. Le Van Huong - Deputy Head of the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Control said: Investing in shrimp farming using high technology, not depending on the weather, so each year can raise 5-6 batches, with a yield of 15-20 tons/ha. Therefore, applying high technology to shrimp farming is inevitable, to cope with climate change, environmental pollution, reduce input costs and improve the quality of shrimp products./.
