Despite receiving nearly 70 billion VND in investment, the Nghe Tinh Folk Song Preservation and Promotion Center Project remains unfinished. Particularly after the recent typhoons No. 5 and No. 10, the project appears even more dilapidated.

The Nghệ Tĩnh Folk Song and Traditional Music Heritage Conservation and Promotion Center project received approval from the Nghệ An Provincial People's Committee in 2016 for its construction drawings and cost estimates for the main components. The project is located on Nguyễn Du Street, Trường Vinh Ward, Nghệ An Province. (Photo: Tiến Đông)

According to the initial design plan, phase 1 of the project includes the following items: an administrative building that also serves as a performance and collection center for the preservation and research of folk songs; site leveling; a comprehensive water supply system; a comprehensive electricity supply system; an underground water tank for domestic use and fire protection, and equipment. The project's construction cost is nearly 70 billion VND, funded by the central and provincial budgets, with the Nghe An Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism as the investor. The construction unit is Hoang Kim Construction Joint Stock Company. Photo: Tien Dong

The project was expected to become a venue for performances promoting the value of Nghe Tinh folk songs (Vi and Giam) after this art form was recognized by UNESCO as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity in 2014. However, nearly 10 years after its inception, the project remains unfinished and unusable. The photo shows the building's lobby area, with the ceiling and tempered glass doors shattered by typhoons No. 5 and No. 10. Photo: Tien Dong

Because there was no protective fence, local residents entered the project's grounds to grow vegetables and raise chickens. In the photo, some items such as fire safety equipment and outdoor lighting have been used as fence posts to enclose the chicken coop. Photo: Tien Dong

A representative from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism stated that due to a lack of funding, the project could not be completed and put into use. Currently, the investor has submitted a proposal to the Provincial People's Committee requesting additional funding to continue implementing phase 2, completing items such as landscaping, interior furnishings, sound and lighting systems, etc., to serve performance activities. After approval, the next steps will be completed. Photo: Tien Dong
