*In Quynh Luu district, taking advantage of the sunny weather after the rain, farmers are heading to the fields to produce the winter crop.
Due to hot weather and drought in many reservoirs and dams during the 2016 summer-autumn crop season, more than 50 hectares of rice fields in Quynh Van commune had to be left fallow, concentrated in hamlets 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15. Taking advantage of the rainy weather and sufficient soil moisture, the people went to the fields to plow and produce the winter crop.
Ms. Le Thi Lien from Hamlet 15, Quynh Van commune, said: “My family has 3 sao (approximately 0.3 hectares) of land, but 2 sao in the Ke Lau field lacked water and couldn't be planted, so we had to leave it fallow for 3 months. Taking advantage of the rain, my family hired a tractor to plow the land and make furrows to produce the winter crop in time.”

This winter season, Quynh Luu district is cultivating 4,000 hectares, including 1,400 hectares of corn and 1,800 hectares of vegetables, beans, and squash. The recent rains have provided crucial water for farmers to organize production.
Due to the abandoned rice fields for one season, farmers had no income. Therefore, in the winter of 2016, in addition to the district's policy of supporting 50% of the cost of seeds for corn, pumpkins, etc., some communes also provided farmers with partial funding for fertilizer and pest control against rats and locusts that damaged crops.

* In Yen Thanh district, 25 hectares of corn were damaged. As soon as the rain stopped, farmers focused on tending and restoring the crop, and intensified efforts to complete the winter crop season.
The heavy rains over the past few days have caused the entire corn crop of Ms. Phan Thi Trang's family in Hamlet 9, Vien Thanh Commune, as well as other villagers, to be flattened and damaged. While replanting her corn, Ms. Trang said: "Taking advantage of the dry weather and receding water, I'm going out to replant the corn, transport fertilizer to prepare for cultivation, and gather the broken plants so that we can harvest them at the end of the season, adding to our family's income..."

In Lien Thanh commune, taking advantage of the sunny weather after the rain, the villagers mobilized to drain the water from the fields, replant seedlings, and urgently continue planting winter crops, striving to exceed the winter crop planting target of more than 6 hectares.
With the goal of increasing economic efficiency per unit area and boosting people's income during the winter crop season, the entire commune strived to plant over 55 hectares of various crops in 2016, including 45.5 hectares of corn, 3 hectares of sweet potatoes, 1 hectare of vegetables, and 3 hectares of fish in the third cropping season. To facilitate the work of the people, the commune directed the hamlets to organize the rental of industrial machinery for tilling and preparing the land. The Commune People's Committee provided 100% of the corn and vegetable seeds for planting on double-cropped rice land. In addition, the Commune People's Committee also supported 50% of the plowing costs and provided all pesticides, while rewarding hamlets that completed the winter crop targets with 1 million VND per hamlet.

In the 2016 winter crop season, Yen Thanh district has so far planted over 600 hectares of corn on double-cropped rice land and other arable land. However, due to recent storms and heavy rains, many planted areas have been severely affected. Specifically, more than 250 hectares of corn and other crops suffered damage ranging from 30-70% or more, concentrated mainly in the communes of Vien Thanh, Quang Thanh, Thinh Thanh, Tien Thanh, Hung Thanh, Cong Thanh, and Lien Thanh… Immediately after the floods, the District Department of Agriculture and Rural Development dispatched officials to coordinate with local authorities to assess the damage, focusing on directing and urging farmers to clear floodwaters, replant fallen corn, and replant areas damaged by flooding. At the same time, they are intensifying care for early-planted areas and continuing to sow the remaining areas, striving to complete the winter crop planting according to the plan of nearly 3,700 hectares.
