(Baonghean.vn) - To ensure a supply of clean vegetables for the Tet holiday market, people in Na Tong village, Tam Thai commune, Tuong Duong district (Nghe An province) have to use flashlights every night to catch pests that are destroying their crops.

The clean vegetable farming model has been implemented since 2013 in Na Tong village (Tam Thai commune) with an investment of approximately 140 million VND from the new rural development program on an area of 2 hectares. This model has helped dozens of households in Na Tong gradually escape poverty. To ensure a supply of clean vegetables, every morning around 4 a.m., the villagers light lamps to remove pests.
At night, many types of caterpillars crawl up from the ground in this vegetable garden, eating the leaves and vegetables, causing damage.
Ms. Vi Thi Thang, head of the village's clean vegetable farming model, said: "Clean vegetables are very scarce during Tet (Lunar New Year), so for many weeks now we have had to mobilize women to take advantage of every opportunity to remove pests from the vegetables."
Armed with just a flashlight, people shine it on the vegetables to catch and eat the worms.
This area is where vegetables are grown without pesticides, so it's heavily infested with pests.
The children in the village also take advantage of the opportunity to go to the garden to help their parents catch insects.
The lush, hand-cultivated vegetable plots are promising a timely supply for the Tet market. However, the clean vegetables from Na Tong village are currently still being sold by the villagers at the local market, as there is no place to purchase them in large quantities.
