On the morning of the 5th day of the Lunar New Year (February 2nd), people returned to Vinh City to prepare for the first working days of the new year. Many local markets opened for business to serve the shopping needs of the people. At Hung Dung Market (Hung Dung Ward), although the market had not yet reopened, traders from all over had flocked to do business on the roads surrounding the market.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Mui, a small-scale vegetable vendor at the market, said: “This morning, we started our business for the new year. The vegetables I buy are from farms in Quynh Luu, completely fresh, just harvested by the farmers. The prices of all green vegetables are stable, not increasing compared to before Tet. Even cauliflower and kohlrabi have seen a sharp price drop due to abundant supply.”

Specifically, according to reports, cabbage and carrots cost 10,000 VND/kg; tomatoes and lettuce cost 15,000 VND/kg; cauliflower costs 10,000 VND/head, scallions cost 20,000 VND/kg; celery costs 30,000 VND/kg…
Meanwhile, pork prices have not fluctuated much compared to the period before Tet. Accordingly, pork belly is priced at 150,000 - 155,000 VND/kg; pork loin at 110,000 - 120,000 VND/kg; ribs at 150,000 VND/kg…
Seafood prices have increased slightly, by 5-10% compared to normal days. Accordingly, frozen tiger prawns are priced at 150,000-160,000 VND/tray, fresh tiger prawns at 300,000 VND/kg, catfish at 300,000 VND/kg; eel at 300,000 VND/kg…

"There's a high demand for hot pot meals for New Year's gatherings. However, apart from the increase in seafood prices, other items have only increased by 2,000-3,000 VND/kg compared to normal days. I think the prices at the beginning of the year are stable," said Bui Van Toan, a local resident.
At Vinh wholesale market, many trucks from all over have arrived to supply goods to small traders as they resume business. Ms. Hoang Thi Xuan, the owner of a fruit agency at Vinh wholesale market, said that starting tomorrow, all local markets will reopen, and business will return to normal. Moreover, from tomorrow, people will begin the traditional New Year's rituals, so fruit will sell very well. Since the afternoon of the 4th, she has contacted suppliers to import goods and supply them to small traders who come to buy wholesale.

“Fruits will be in high demand from now until the full moon of the first lunar month due to increased demand for visiting temples and making offerings at the beginning of the year. Therefore, we have prepared sufficient supplies to serve the people. Currently, the prices of various fruits have increased slightly, while green bananas have cooled down considerably compared to before the Lunar New Year.”
Supermarkets like GO! MM Mega Market and Lotte... started opening on the second day of Tet (Lunar New Year), with an abundant supply of goods ranging from food and vegetables to dry goods. On the morning of the fifth day of Tet, many people came to shop, mainly for fresh produce, vegetables, and essential necessities.

Mr. Nham Sy Thanh, Director of Lotte Mart Vinh Supermarket, said: “The food supply is fresh, and prices are stable with little fluctuation. People have returned to shopping in large numbers, especially during the last two days of the Tet holiday, recording a revenue growth of about 30% compared to the previous days.”
With people returning to the city for work, and the post-Tet holiday season marking the beginning of festivals, consumption of food, dining out, and shopping for early-year festivities will increase.

To further stabilize the market in the month following Tet, relevant authorities have planned to closely monitor market supply and demand, prices of essential goods and services, and implement strict controls and price stabilization measures for entertainment, food, and transportation services during the holiday season.
