After the Lunar New Year 2025, the number of passengers from Nghe An to the Northern and Southern provinces increased dramatically, leading to a situation of "sold out tickets". Although the ticket price to the Southern provinces increased more than twice, passengers still had to "bite the bullet" to buy.

On the morning of the 5th day of Tet, Mr. Tran Van N in Hoa Son commune, Do Luong district bought a bus ticket to go to Ho Chi Minh City. He said: On normal days, a ticket from Do Luong to Ho Chi Minh City costs 700,000 VND/ticket, but on Tet it has increased to 1.7 million VND/ticket, but he still has to buy it because there are too many people traveling.

Contacted another bus company in Do Luong district to buy tickets, the staff said the ticket price was 1.7 million VND/person to go to the southern provinces, but the tickets were sold out on the 5th, there would be another trip on the 7th, if he did not book tickets today, the tickets would be sold out tonight.

On the same day, we contacted another bus company in Yen Thanh district to buy tickets to Ho Chi Minh City. The staff of this bus company informed us that the ticket price was 1.9 million VND/person. When asked why the ticket price increased from 1.7 million VND/ticket last year to 1.9 million VND/ticket this year, the staff explained that "tickets are different every year".

Through research, it is known that the bus companies going to Nghe An and the southern provinces have also increased the freight rates by 30-50%. For example, a cargo box weighing 15-20 kg, transported on normal days, receives 100,000 VND, but now during Tet, it has increased to 150,000 VND, some buses limit the freight, prioritizing passenger transport to increase income.

On other inter-provincial routes, the ticket price has also nearly doubled, such as at Quynh Luu district bus companies going to Da Nang, the normal price is 250,000 VND/ticket, now it has increased to 450,000 VND/ticket. The "Vip" sleeper bus ticket has increased from 500,000 VND/ticket to 800,000 VND/ticket...

On some inter-provincial routes such as Nghe An to Hanoi, Hai Phong, Quang Nam... ticket prices increased slightly by 30%.

According to a survey, while most buses in Nghe An have increased their fares, there are still some reputable bus companies that have not increased their fares. Regarding the fare increase, some bus companies said that this is an additional charge for the return trip when the bus has almost no passengers.

Mr. Nguyen Viet Hung - Chief Inspector of Nghe An Department of Transport added: Most transport businesses that increase ticket prices must have a proposal and must be appraised and approved by the competent authorities of the Department of Transport and the Department of Finance, to compensate for losses because the return trip has no passengers.

However, ticket prices must not be arbitrarily increased. If receiving feedback from people about high ticket prices, the traffic inspection force will check and handle it. After Tet, in addition to coordinating with other functional forces to ensure road traffic, the traffic inspection force will also check and handle cases of ticket price increases that are not in accordance with regulations.
