According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in December 2015, there is a possibility of about 4-5 cold air waves (KKL) causing cold spells, showers and thunderstorms in the Northern provinces. The Northern provinces are likely to have about 3-4 showers and thunderstorms, the Central provinces are likely to be affected by 2-4 moderate and heavy rains. The cold spells are more concentrated in the second half of the month.

In the second half of December 2015, the East Sea area is likely to be affected by a storm or tropical depression.

During the recent severe cold spells, no new records for minimum temperatures were recorded, however the lowest temperature in Sa Pa (Lao Cai) was 1.6 degrees Celsius, Sin Ho (Lai Chau) -0.3 degrees Celsius and Dong Van 1.8 degrees Celsius.

Detailed forecast for regions in the next 10 days is as follows:

Northwest: From 20th to 22nd and 28th, 29th, cloudy, rain in some places. Light wind. Cold weather.

On the 23rd and 24th, cloudy at night and in the morning, with rain in some places, sunny in the afternoon. Light wind. Cold at night and in the morning.

From 25 to 27, cloudy, scattered rain. Light wind. Cold, very cold in some places.

Northeast and Thanh Hoa: On the 20th and 21st, cloudy, with rain in some places. Northeast wind level 2, level 3. Cold weather.

From 22nd to 24th, cloudy at night and morning, rain in some places, sunny in the afternoon. East to southeast wind level 2. Cold at night and morning.
