The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor is currently building 50 trade union facilities with 50,000 apartments for workers, priced from just 150 million VND per apartment.

This information was released at a press conference about the 12th Congress of the Vietnam Trade Union, recently organized by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor in Hanoi.

One of the targets set by the Vietnam Trade Union organization for the 2018-2023 term is to invest in and build at least 50 trade union facilities, including housing, kindergartens, supermarkets, healthcare, cultural, sports, and legal counseling services, in industrial parks and export processing zones.

The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor announced that each trade union facility will have approximately 1,000 apartments ranging from 30 to 45 square meters, built to a high standard and handed over to workers along with service facilities such as kindergartens and supermarkets. 50 trade union facilities will be linked to 50,000 apartments, 50 kindergartens, supermarkets, multi-purpose buildings, etc., in 50 industrial and export processing zones.

Through thorough research into the capabilities and income of workers, and a year-long negotiation process involving the development of new technologies, the selling price of housing for workers will be around 5 million VND/m2, with the price of an apartment starting from 150 million VND.

To date, 20 provinces have been allocated land for the construction of trade union facilities, and this allocation has been supported by local authorities. The remaining 30 localities are actively working to secure land for the construction of trade union facilities as soon as possible.

Currently, the country has 2.8 million workers in industrial zones and export processing zones, with 1.7 million in need of housing. However, the market only meets 8-10% of the demand, forcing most workers to rent accommodation in very poor living conditions, affecting their health and impacting labor productivity.

Therefore, the development of social housing, housing for workers, and housing for low-income earners has been a priority for the Government in the Housing Development Strategy to 2020 and vision to 2030.
