The SEA Games 33 has finalized the plan for the men's football tournament after Cambodia withdrew: Singapore has been moved from Group 4 of Group C to Group A, replacing Cambodia. The tournament will maintain its 3-group structure, with 3 teams in each group. Vietnam U22's opponents in Group B remain unchanged.
The ruling came after an emergency meeting.
According to the latest information, the decision was made at a meeting of the SEA Games 33 Organizing Committee at the Office of the Prime Minister's Permanent Secretary, Government Building, chaired by Mr. Atthakorn Sirilathayakorn, Minister of Tourism and Sports. Previously, the Cambodian Olympic Committee had sent a letter requesting to withdraw from eight sports, including men's football; in addition to billiards and Muay Thai, which had already been withdrawn.
The withdrawal of the Cambodian men's football team left Group A with only Thailand and Timor-Leste, forcing the host nation to make adjustments to ensure competitiveness and a consistent match schedule.
Adjusted tournament bracket structure
The organizers decided to move Singapore (in Group 4 of Table C) to Table A. As a result, the men's football tournament at the 33rd SEA Games will have 3 groups, with 3 teams in each group:

Reasons for not holding a redraw.
The option of reassigning one team is considered more reasonable than redrawing all nine teams when the tournament is so close to its start date and most teams have already completed their preparations. Maintaining three groups of three teams each also makes it clearer to determine the semi-finalists (the top three teams from each group and the best-performing second-placed team).
Impact on Vietnam U22
Group B for the Vietnam U22 team remains unchanged: Vietnam, Malaysia, Laos. According to the organizers' calculation method, if a team finishes second, the result of a win against the last-placed team will still be considered in comparisons with other second-placed teams. Given that Laos is considered a weaker opponent, a decisive victory against them could open up a chance for Vietnam U22 to advance if they fail to beat Malaysia.
