Sharp has officially unveiled a more refined version of its LDK+ electric minivan concept, showing a clear step forward from concept to production-ready configuration. The vehicle uses Foxconn's electric vehicle platform and emphasizes two key technological pillars: AIoT (Automatic Internet of Things) for connecting the ecosystem of home appliances and V2H (Vehicle-to-Human) technology for reverse power generation.

The LDK+ will be unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show later this month. While the company hasn't yet announced engine and battery specifications, changes to the design, interior layout, and equipment suggest a potential commercialization in the near future.

Compared to the 2024 prototype, the LDK+ abandons the short, cab-over-style front end in favor of the proportions of a traditional minivan. The front end features a horizontal LED light strip integrated into the enclosed grille, with the Sharp logo placed in the center – a familiar design language for modern electric vehicles, but simplified to suit the production model.

The body uses a two-tone paint scheme to enhance the modern feel, while the upright rear optimizes space. Sliding doors on both sides, rearview mirrors, and traditional door handles are practical details, showing that Sharp is aiming for mass production feasibility rather than showcasing the pure style of a concept.

Cabins are like mobile living rooms.

The LDK+ interior focuses on the living experience when the vehicle is stationary. The new concept maintains an open space with a flat floor and a B-pillar-free approach, making movement between rows of seats convenient. The driver's seat can be rotated backward, and the center console, which includes a utility box with a folding table, creates an instant workspace or relaxation area.

The three rear seats are pushed back to the rear of the vehicle to maximize center console space. Sharp equips the cabin with a projector and a retractable screen positioned above the rear seats, transforming it into a "mini-cinema" or mobile office. Ambient lighting is subtly adjusted, reinforcing the feeling of a mobile living room.

Foxconn Model A platform and performance: information is being updated.

LDK+ shares the same chassis as the Foxconn Model A – a flexible modular platform introduced last year. This modular approach allows for easy customization of body configuration and functionality to suit different needs. However, core specifications such as battery capacity, power, range, and fast charging capabilities have not yet been announced.

Foxconn plans to launch a commercial version of the Model A in 2027, then expand to several Southeast Asian markets. This roadmap indirectly indicates a ripe time for technology, supply chain, and standardization, but the commercialization timeline for LDK+ still needs confirmation from Sharp.

Safety and technology: AIoT and V2H are the focus.

The biggest highlight of LDK+ is its AIoT platform developed by Sharp. The system can connect with household appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, and washing machines to learn usage habits and automatically adjust the environment accordingly. According to Sharp, the vehicle acts as an extension of the living room when parked – redefining the boundaries between family life and transportation.

LDK+ supports V2H, synchronizing with solar power and home battery systems to become a backup power source for the home when needed. This approach aligns with the bidirectional energy strategy becoming popular in electric vehicles, particularly useful in power outage situations or for optimizing electricity costs over time.

Sharp has not yet released details of the driver assistance package or safety ratings. Information such as advanced driver assistance systems, the number of airbags, and testing standards will be clarified as the model moves closer to mass production.

Price and positioning: electric minivan for connected families

LDK+ is positioned as an electric minivan focused on flexible space and connectivity to the home appliance ecosystem – suitable for families or users who need a multi-purpose space for work and entertainment. Pricing and configurations for this version have not yet been announced. Upon commercialization, Sharp's advantage lies in its deep AIoT integration with existing home appliance ecosystems, while Foxconn handles the technical platform and supply chain.
