Delivery driver sentenced to death for transporting nearly 5kg of drugs.

After successfully transporting 3 kg of "fake" drugs the first time, Doanh was assigned to transport nearly 5 kg of drugs before being arrested.

On November 16th, the Hanoi High Court of Appeal opened a hearing to review the case of Nguyen Ngoc Doanh (born in 1981, residing in Huu Lung district, Lang Son province) on charges of illegally transporting narcotics. The hearing was held following an appeal for a reduced sentence.

According to the indictment, Nguyen Ngoc Doanh was a timber trader in Lang Son. In 2014, Doanh became acquainted with a man named A Chung (a Chinese national) and was hired to transport drugs to Hanoi for a fee of 100 million VND.

Prior to carrying out the above operation, Doanh had successfully transported 3kg of "fake" drugs to Hanoi.

On the night of June 5, 2016, in the area near the church (in Dong Dang town, Lang Son province), a young man on a motorbike handed Doanh two plastic bags containing methamphetamine.

After receiving the "goods," Doanh picked up his girlfriend and headed to Hanoi. However, at 2:30 AM on June 6, 2016, when he arrived at the parking garage of an apartment complex in Ha Dong district, Hanoi, Doanh was arrested by the police.

According to the expert assessment by the authorities, the seized drugs weighed over 4,800g of Methamphetamine.

At the appeal hearing, the defendant Doanh sincerely confessed to all the criminal acts as concluded in the first-instance judgment.

In court, the defendant explained that due to difficult circumstances, a good character, and the fact that his father was a revolutionary hero, he requested a reduced sentence.

Based on the case file, the Panel of Judges of the Hanoi High Court decided to reject the appeal and uphold the first-instance judgment, sentencing defendant Nguyen Ngoc Doanh to death for the crime of illegally transporting narcotics.
