'Master Thief' Set Up Hammock Inside Friend's House, Waiting to Steal Over Half a Billion VND

After breaking into his best friend's house, Sy hung a hammock on the ceiling to sleep, waiting until morning to break open the safe and steal over half a billion dong.

On July 23, the Ca Mau Provincial Police are holding Tran Van Sy (39 years old, residing in Tran Phan commune, Dam Doi district, Ca Mau province) in custody for investigation into the crime of theft.

Sy is suspected of breaking into his close friend's house and stealing gold and money worth over half a billion dong.

According to the initial investigation, on July 22nd, Mr. Nguyen Van Thien and his wife (residents of Dam Doi town) locked their house before going out for work.

Later, when Mr. Thien returned home, he discovered that the metal cabinet in his bedroom had been broken open.

Thiện went around the house to assess the situation and discovered Trần Văn Sỹ, his close friend, hiding in the clothesline. Thiện shouted for help and, together with the surrounding residents, apprehended Sỹ and handed him over to the police.

Here, Sy stated that because he was acquainted with Thien's family, he knew that his close friend had a lot of assets.

On the evening of July 21st, Sy prepared a crowbar, keys, a saw, gloves, etc., and went to Thien's house. Sy pried open a corrugated iron sheet to get inside, then hung a hammock on the ceiling and slept there until the next morning.

After seeing that Mr. and Mrs. Thien had left the house, Sy climbed down and used tools to break open the safe, stealing 5 taels of 24K gold, over 15 taels of 18K gold, and over 12 million dong. The total value was over half a billion dong. After committing the crime, Sy was discovered and apprehended by Mr. Thien before he could escape.

It is known that Sy previously had a criminal record for illegally possessing and selling narcotics.
