The election of representatives to the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term is a memorable milestone for many Gen Z students as they exercise their right to vote for the first time.

To help students understand the importance of voting.

About 10 days before the election, during his lunch break, Mr. Tran Chau Thanh – Deputy Director of the Dormitory Center, Vinh University – went to each room in the dormitory to meet with students and promote the election process. He not only disseminated basic information about the rights and obligations of voters, but also discussed with students the significance of the election, the voting process, and the responsibilities of each citizen in choosing representatives who will represent the will and aspirations of the people.

For most students, this was their first time holding a voter card. Such face-to-face discussions helped them better understand the importance of voting, while also raising their political awareness and sense of responsibility towards national issues.

Student Duong Duc Huy, from Law Class K64, said: “Over the past period, I have proactively researched the election procedures as well as the rights and obligations of voters. Participating in an election for the first time is a very meaningful experience, because through my ballot, I can contribute to choosing worthy representatives who will represent the will and aspirations of the people.”

Besides being interested in the election process, many students are also actively following information about the candidates and their action programs. Trinh Thanh Thao, a K66 student from the Faculty of Literature, shared: “We all hope that when we participate in voting, we will make the right choice, demonstrating the responsibility of young people towards the development of the country. As a student of education, I am particularly interested in policies related to education, especially the regulations and policies for teachers and teacher training students. Many teacher training students also hope that the elected representatives will pay more attention to improving teaching and learning conditions, have policies to attract teachers to work in disadvantaged areas, and create an increasingly better educational environment for students. We hope that our voices through the ballot will contribute to choosing representatives who are truly dedicated to the cause of education.”

Vinh University currently has over 19,000 students, including nearly 300 students residing in dormitories. This year, the university was chosen as the polling station for residential area Block 6, Ben Thuy Ward, so preparations are being carried out even more urgently.

More than a week before the election, at the main polling station located in Hall A of the school, a list of over 1,000 voters was posted, along with brief biographies of 21 candidates in the area. In lecture halls, auditoriums, and along the roads leading to the dormitories, numerous banners and slogans promoting the election of National Assembly and People's Council representatives at all levels were also prominently displayed, creating a vibrant atmosphere leading up to this important event.

"

At this point, preparations for the election in the unit are basically complete. Compiling a complete and accurate voter list not only ensures citizens' rights and obligations but also contributes to making election day democratic, lawful, and truly a celebration for the entire population.

Sharing his thoughts on the honor and responsibility of being nominated, Rector Nguyen Van Tuan said: “Having worked in the fields of healthcare and higher education for 28 years, I am well aware of the responsibility of a doctor and a teacher towards the cause of caring for and protecting the health of the people, as well as the task of training high-quality human resources for Nghe An province and the whole country. With my medical expertise and experience in management, teaching, and scientific research, I hope to have more opportunities to contribute to the field of healthcare and the training of medical personnel.”

Currently, Vinh Medical University has over 700 students residing in the dormitory. However, this year the university will not be organizing a separate polling station. Instead, students will participate in voting along with the residents of Trung Hung block at the block's cultural center.

In recent days, in addition to dissemination of information in classrooms and through the school's communication channels, students have also been guided on how to use the VNeID application to check and update their personal information for the election process.

Huynh Thi Anh, a nursing student in class B15C, shared: “My home is in Gia Lai, and this is my first year studying far from home. Although I can't go home on weekends like some of my friends, I'm still very happy that the school has created opportunities for me to participate in the election near the dormitory. This election is especially meaningful to me because I just turned 18 and this is the first time I've been able to exercise my civic rights.”

According to Ms. Bui Thi Hong Thu, Head of the Student Affairs Department, although the election was held on Sunday, many students still had to participate in fieldwork at the hospital or return to their hometowns to exercise their right to vote. Therefore, the school requested students to proactively arrange their time to fully participate in the election as required.

"

After exercising their right to vote, students must return their stamped voter cards to their homeroom teacher for the school to monitor. This contributes to raising students' sense of civic responsibility and their participation in socio-political activities.
