Shining the "Monthly Stars"January

Having won third prize in the Start-up Kite Nghe An Competition in 2023 and the Potential Development Award in the Green Startup Competition in 2023, Dao Xuan Lap (born in 1999), a student at the Vietnam-Korea Industrial Technical College, is one of the individuals with many remarkable achievements while still a student.

Lap is one of four outstanding students from Nghe An who recently attended the 2023 January Star Award Ceremony organized by the Vietnam Student Union on January 7th. This is a prestigious award given annually by the Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Student Union to students who excel in their studies, training, and extracurricular activities.
Among the representatives from Nghe An, Dao Xuan Lap stands out with many distinctive characteristics of a Gen Z student, namely his "different" way of thinking and learning.

Few people know that Dao Xuan Lap is a soldier. He served in the military for two years, from 2019 to 2021. After being discharged, he decided to continue his academic pursuits to develop his strengths. Becoming a student at the Vietnam-Korea Industrial Technical College, with solid skills, he has boldly participated in and implemented many provincial and regional startup projects.

Among them, the startup project Hippo Steam, which uses familiar bamboo and rattan materials from Nghe An province, has made a significant impact.

In particular, despite being an engineering student, Dao Xuan Lap has always been interested in political theory subjects. That is why he registered to participate in the National Olympic Competition in Marxist-Leninist Science and Ho Chi Minh Thought "The Guiding Light" and won the Encouragement Award at the provincial level.

With this mindset, young people need to raise their political awareness and cultivate revolutionary ideals to stand firm in the new situation. Through these efforts, Lap has fulfilled his role in leading the Youth Union and Student Association movements, maintaining his excellent academic and training achievements for many years.
At Vinh Medical University, Nguyen Duy Thanh (born in 2000), a 6th-year student in class 18YD, majoring in General Medicine, is also a shining example among the province's students. Thanh joined the Communist Party in 2022, achieved the title of "Excellent Student," and the "January Star" title in 2022 and 2023, maintaining excellent academic performance and outstanding conduct scores for many years.

I have donated blood voluntarily 8 times and have actively participated in charitable activities such as providing health check-up consultations for people in mountainous areas and advising people infected with Covid-19…

Currently, Duy Thanh is a member of the Executive Committee of the University's Youth Union and also holds the position of Secretary of the General Practitioner's Branch Youth Union. He is a leading figure in the activities of the Branch Youth Union as well as the University's Youth Union.
It can be said that exemplary "January Stars" like Nguyen Duy Thanh and Dao Xuan Lap are increasingly making a clear mark on the work of the Student Union and the student movement in Nghe An.

Sharing information on this matter, Comrade Tran Linh – Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union and President of the Provincial Student Association – stated that Nghe An currently has 28,421 students. Over the past period, the work of the Student Association and the student movement in Nghe An province has developed comprehensively. The "5 Good Students" movement has truly been an ideal environment for students to strive, train, contribute, and grow. During the term, the entire province had 224 students achieving the "5 Good Students" title at the provincial level; and 770 students achieving the "5 Good Students" title at the school level.

Creative activities and scientific research among students have undergone positive changes, becoming more closely linked to practical applications and real-world needs. Over the past five years, 2,438 student research projects at the faculty level, 452 projects at the university level, and 20 student research projects at the provincial/regional level have been implemented.

The Association's branches focus on maintaining and developing scholarship funds, awarding over 5 billion VND in support to more than 5,000 disadvantaged students, aiming to encourage and motivate students to strive for academic excellence.

For students, the "Three Good Students" movement (good morals, good academics, good physical fitness) and the "Three Training Students" movement (training morals and conduct; improving knowledge and skills; training professional skills and attitudes) have been widely implemented.

In 2023, the Provincial Youth Union commended 191 students who achieved the title of "Excellent Student, Excellent Student" at the provincial level. In addition, hundreds of students achieved this title at the grassroots level, representing bright spots in many localities.

Fundamental and sustainable directions

Concerned about the work of the Student Union and the student movement in the province, at the 4th Congress of the Nghe An Provincial Student Union, the Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Le Hong Vinh, not only acknowledged the achievements but also frankly pointed out the remaining limitations.

According to Comrade Le Hong Vinh, the content, methods, and effectiveness of the student association's education of students regarding negative phenomena and social evils are not yet clearly defined; a segment of students have not correctly identified their learning goals and motivations, and lack the will to strive for improvement. This leads to deviations in lifestyle, falling into social evils, easily being drawn into bad purposes, and even violating the law. The student associations at all levels are responsible for this situation.

The Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee emphasized that in the coming period, Nghe An province will focus its resources on effectively implementing the Resolution of the 19th Provincial Party Congress and Resolution 39 of the Politburo on building and developing Nghe An until 2030, with a vision to 2045. This places high demands and requires great efforts from all levels, sectors, and strata of the people, including the Student Union and its members.

Nghe An is currently one of the destinations for major domestic and international investors, creating a huge demand for highly skilled and qualified human resources. Therefore, student associations at all levels need to pay special attention to accompanying and supporting students in improving their education, vocational training, professional skills, and industrial work ethic to be ready to serve the province's development process and build a high-quality workforce for the province.

To effectively implement movements, a strong Student Union organization is essential. To build a strong Student Union organization, we need Union officials who are "on par" with the tasks at hand. Each Student Union official must constantly strive to improve their professional skills and knowledge, while maintaining their image, character, and ethics.

Setting high expectations for the student force in Nghe An, Comrade Nguyen Minh Triet - Secretary of the Central Committee of the Youth Union, President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Association - emphasized: The most important thing is to optimize the role of students as the main actors in the Association's activities.

At the same time, emphasis should be placed on strengthening the application of technology and digital transformation in the student movement. Digital transformation should not only stop at the effective use of technological products but also create an environment where students are the main actors in building, programming, and developing digital tools to serve the work of the Student Union in particular and to solve economic and social problems in general.

Only in this way can students equip themselves with the necessary tools to maximize their value in the new situation.
